VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (KDKA) — A picture of San Francisco 49ers Quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s jersey taped to a Virginia restaurant’s floor is causing a controversy online.
Virginia Beach resident James Perry posted the picture to Facebook, showing the jersey taped down to the floor of Krossroads Rock and County Bar.
The post has been shared more than 5,000 times and Perry has asked people in his community to boycott the bar.
He told CBS affiliate WTKR that he was stunned to see the jersey on the floor.
“What went through my mind was like ‘Wow, is this real or is it a joke?’ How would you feel if someone taped a police officer’s uniform down?” Perry asked.
But some people are not so taken aback by the restaurant’s actions.

“I was not offended by that,” Carol Bevilacqua said. “I think we live in a free country. I think people are allowed to do what they want.”
The manager of the restaurant told WTKR that the jersey being taped to the floor is about “sportsmanship and Kaepernick’s disrespect of the flag – not race.”
This is not about race. He is disrespecting the National ,Anthem. The exact thing that gives him freedom. He can protest all he wants. That is his right because of our flag and our service men and women who have served and given their lives. That is not the forum to do it. He is a paid employee who is working. And is making millions because of our freedoms.. Yes there are issues and they need addressed. Do it on your own time and not in uniform. And I am sorry but his football jersey is not the same as a police officers. There are good and bad people in every profession. Yes it needs repaired. I hope he doesn’t need a police officer one day.The good ones go to work everyday not knowing if they will come home to their families .Go after the bad ones but don’t disrespect them all .That is just as bad as being racist. We all bleed red. We are all one race.. THE HUMAN RACE….
