I feel you're a bit late to this particular parade XD.

I doubt its a fear of contradicting player choice as fallout 4 doesn't have choice and consequence - it has cause and effect.

I think a lot of old time fans are somewhat disappointed, I've gone back to FO3 and FNV and I'm having a blast with both of them.

Sadly I fear this is the new direction for fallout, whilst i love Fallout 3 it too suffered a little by removing the faction system and the like, Bethesda tend to make their version a little simpler which would be fine if there was good writing to surround it and interesting world building but whilst 3 earned a pass in this area 4 does not. It sold an absolute ton of copies and got incredible review scores, add to that the amount of people who bought the price hiked season pass/DLC's (and for what by the way? There were 3 workshop DLC which is just enabling already existing assets in the build engine) - it made them a lot of money and sadly the bottom line is what matters.
