Back before the emergence of websites like Instagram and Vine, there was Myspace. Because Myspace was the first major social media site, 'Myspace popular' people dominated the internet celebrity scene, while the 'Myspace popular' crowd was dominated by people in the emo and scene subcultures, and the emo and scene subcultures were dominated by drama, backstabbing, and catfights. There were many shameless rabble-rousers who gained prominence during this period, but one in particular made so many enemies, caused so many problems, and had such a gigantic ego that her name is not only eternal on the lips of internet dramawhores but etched into the annals of internet history at large: Kiki Kannibal.
Many gallons of e-ink has been spilled on the legend of Kiki Kannibal, and there's nearly a decade worth of material to unpack, so this is going to be a brief synopsis of Kiki's story. For a more in-depth study, lolcow.farm has thousands of comments worth of material across multiple threads that are fun to read if you're out on a sick day or it's a rainy weekend.
MYSPACE
Kiki Kannibal acquired fame on Myspace in the mid 2000's at the ripe old age of 14 (though she was apparently active on the site since she was twelve), when images started circulating of herself with poorly-shooped raccoon print scene hair. Because this was prior to photoshop becoming widely used to enhance personal photos, everyone believed that it was real, and Kiki went after anyone who emulated the fake stripes for years to come, erroneously claiming that she invented them (it had been common decades ago in some other lame subculture). This was the first of many things that Kiki would pretend she invented, and the habit would later land her in hot water for plagiarism a number of times. Kiki's Myspace collected many thousands of friends and hundreds of fanpages and fake accounts made by people who wanted to be her, making her e-famous on par with the likes of Jeffree Star and Audrey Kitching. However, her toxic personality and gigantic ego caused her to fight frequently with many other Myspace greats until she was much hated within the Myspace celebrity community.
STICKAM
Eventually the drama became too much for the admins to tolerate, so they banned Kiki from Myspace for "disorderly conduct". As a result, Kiki took up residence on Stickam, which was an early webcam streaming website where attention whores could interact with fans/pedophiles who would give them the attention they so desired via a text chat interface. Here she caused even more trouble with her sister Dakota (who's a drama legend in her own right) by dancing around seductively (she was around 16 or 17 at this point), doing and saying racist and homophobic shit, and generally being an unpleasant person. Eventually Stickam died in a massive explosion of drama (well worth a write-up in and of itself), and Kiki was left floundering (and sockpuppetting) on Twitter and Tumblr trying to recapture her old Myspace fame.
THE OSTREGAS
The thing that makes Kiki's story kind of sad is her parents, who forced their daughters into the limelight while they were barely in their teens. Here they attempted to drum up sympathy for themselves in an infamous Rolling Stone article, but it's easy to read between the lines and notice what kind of people they are. They were the ones who took the pictures that made little Kiki famous, they tried to push her into numerous ventures (like running an illegal business selling shitty jewlery), they were the ones who sent numerous legal threats to anybody who published anything critical of Kiki (and continue to do so this day). They also encouraged Kiki to date a legal adult at the age of 13, which ultimately lead to an untimely and ridiculously stupid death.
MR. MYSPACE
As mentioned, Cathy Ostrega encouraged teen Kiki to date a legal adult, Daniel Cespedes (aka "Mr. Myspace"), while she was 13, even allowing him to move in with them. However, somebody on Stickam was concerned about this age disparity and called the police, who cornered the 19-year-old Mr. Myspace at a Miami shopping mall to arrest him for statutory rape. Attempting to evade the cops, Cespedes jumped over a guard rail in the mall's 2-story parking garage in an attempt to land on a moving garbage truck. Unsurprisingly, he hit the ground instead, landing in a coma for 3 months before passing away. Shortly afterwards, Kiki was mocking Cespedes' death on Stickam, leading some people to believe that it was Kiki who lead the police to him. However, it turns out that he had a specific liking for girls in their early teens, so it was likely one of his other victims that alerted the police.
KIKI TODAY
Eventually Kiki faded into obscurity while her sister Dakota, due to her masterful shooping skills, became a model in Japan. She adopted a ~child of mother earth~ new age persona had a brief stint in Japan where she attempted to follow in her sister's footsteps, even lying about having a Japanese boyfriend (she was a booty call), visiting China and getting an entertainment visa, but she had no luck and had to go back to Florida when her tourist visa expired. She currently sits in the Ostrega household, posting off-and-on on Twitter, trying to find a Japanese boyfriend on Interpals, and bitterly reminiscing about the brief period of time where she was the most infamous person on the Internet.
