Read the monster guide in the game. All foes have weaknesses.

Besides that it'll be a little tough at first. You'll get better. Just get lost for a while and don't even bother with the main story. Once it gets you it's hard to break loose.

Awesome! This is exactly what I'm looking for. I've been paying a lot of attention to the monster guide... still need to get used to crafting potions and such. Thank you for the input!

Once you get murdered on a few monster hunts you'll figure out the alchemy stuff very quickly. But work on contracts to get good coin and try some gwent out.

Other than that, just let the game sink its claws into you. It's magical, choose where you wanna go.

I'm a little apprehensive on Gwent. I know it's good enough for a stand alone game to come out for it... I'm sure it's more simple than I'm making it. Otherwise, the claws are sunk. I've already delved into an area or two where my level wasn't up to par. I went back to earlier areas, and I'm hoping that "grinding" isn't a proceeding factor to the game.

Na main story quest and most of the important side ones give shit loads of xp. It's hard to not get overlevelled in the game (unless u just beeline the main story) so grinding is definetly not a factor. Might not seem like it for early parts but trust me.

I bought Witcher 3 when Fallout 4 disappointed me and I went into this huge game blind, so I feel like I have a couple of tips that would help.

Read up on the beastiary: It will especially help with the random strong monsters that guard treasure and will help you decide which oils/bombs/signs to invest into.

Do everything in White Orchard: it's filled with goodies and it'll help you level a bit before the huge secondary area of Velen. There are also some pretty interesting sidequests and some must-have items like saddlebags that you're able to find there.

Harvest all the plants you see: I would say take a break from using Roach unless your goal is more than 1000 steps away. Try and walk/sprint because in the beginning you will need to pick up so many different types of plants to help you get a kickstart with the alchemy.

Research builds: I'm going to guess that you're an avid gamer so I just want to say that it's important to just take some time to look at the skill trees and find out what build you're going to go for, because it will affect what set of Witcher gear you'll be going for later.

Check your 'junk' section: When I first started I was having a hard time looting anything cause I could barely carry anything and I didn't know what taking up so much of my weight capacity. It turned out to be a ton of hides in my junk section. Sell those, they sell for a lot, and if you need leather-esque crafting materials, dismantle them. Also briefly open the books so they register as read. They'll save in the glossary and then you can sell the books/random pieces of paper you come across for some meager earnings and a cleaner inventory.

Do the main quest: If you can't seem to find anything to do that's on your level anymore, then do the main quest. It'll level you up like crazy and open up so many more quests and contracts to do.

Do witcher contracts: When you're low on coin, do witcher contracts. They usually have a great backstory to them and they don't take too long. In the beginning they won't pay too much but eventually they'll start paying 250 crowns average and you can bargain for higher pay.

Explore the edges of the map: They're filled with some pretty nice goodies.

Take in the views. Let the game just sweep you into the wonderful and beautiful world of the Witcher and just have some fun. Even though they stress the importance of time in the story it doesn't really seem to apply to Geralt. Go cut down some bandits and scale a mountain for a great view, because simply enjoying the world of the Witcher that CDPR have made for you is a great way to show appreciation.

Have fun with the Witcher!
