In light of both recent events and long-simmering racial issues in this country, I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s time for me to state my sincere and forthright position on race relations, specifically those involving the black population. So here it is: I don’t care about black people.

In our age of Totalism, this needs some clarification. Totalism means that there is no middle–one must either love something with all of one’s heart and be willing to work tirelessly for its benefit, or (clearly) one must hate it and wish to see it destroyed with maximum force. By no means can there be any in-between. This paradigm is a tool of control–one common in history, but particularly loved by Puritans, which means that it is now primarily in the hands of the puritanical left. Few want to be seen as so heartless or vicious as to hate something–or, commonly, some group of people–enough to wish destruction upon it. And so, accepting the Totalist frame, most people feel compelled to insist that they do love it, and would bear any burden for its betterment. They dare not take the risk of being painted as a villain (which these days usually means someone who doesn’t believe in the sacred dogma of equality). But there are some of us who know better, and who reject the frame given us. And that is what I mean to do here.

I don’t care about black people, which means by definition that I don’t hate them. In order to hate something or someone, you must care about them deeply. Hate is a serious, long-term emotional investment, and one must actually care very much about the object of one’s hatred in order to make it. As is often said, hate is not the opposite of love; indifference is. And I have come to be very indifferent about the fortunes of blacks.

I don’t care about black people. Their problems are not my problem. Their enemies are not my enemy. Their concerns are not my concern. I feel no need to understand them or their ways, and I don’t care whether or not they understand me or my ways. I wish them well–in fact, I know not a single white person, no matter how outwardly racist, who does not wish that blacks were doing better than they are, if for no other reason than that we must all live with the effects of their failures. I hope that the issues that seem to ceaselessly dog their community all get solved somehow. I have no desire to do them and theirs injury, except as punishment for injury done by them against me and mine. But I don’t care about them–there is nothing more I want from them other than to simply leave me alone, and in exchange, I will gladly leave them alone as well.

I wholeheartedly disagree. Philandro Castle, Eric Garner and Alton Sterling had videos. I don’t think any of those were cases where the men deserved to be killed. In the case of Philandro, where the video was going after the event, it was obvious what happened. The officer made a horrible mistake. Black Lives Matter is a protest group that’s trying to tell America that there’s a very pronounced system of fear with people like me. I’ve been SUPER nice to officers and experienced some very scary stuff. It’s happened to me since I was a kid.

I don’t think those people snatching and grabbing are a part of BLM. I’m pretty sure they aren’t. However, there is racist media out there that will associate these acts with the organization so people will denounce it. The original intent for Black Lives Matter was for people to understand there are injustices happening to black people. I heard a gentleman say online a little while back that when people say All Lives Matter it’s the equivalent of going into a lung cancer benefit and saying breast cancer matters! When you think of the REAL Black Lives Matter movement, understand it’s an awareness initiative. It means, Black Lives Matter too. It means stop looking at an entire race as a threat. Be aware of news sources slapping BLM on everything negative. Nine times out of 10, it has nothing to do with the organization.

The Garner incident WAS a case of excessive force but it’s hard to say that when a 350lb guy is struggling and fighting against you you would be calm and totally clear headed. I deal with it and wait for shit to sort itself out. Mouthing off and fighting with police is only putting yourself at risk. I think you’re either trying to push the false narrative yourself or you are buying into it just the way the media is trying to spin it. I grew up poor and have lived in predominantly black neighborhoods. Police there treated me just as bad as anyone else. It is not about color it’s about class and appearances. The racial divide is disinformation. The real divide is economic and has nothing to do with race at all. I’m not saying that racism doesn’t exist at all but trying to push it as the sole motivation for police shootings is either willful ignorance or being intentionally disingenuous. I am in no way supporting the police. I have a deep seeded distrust for police based on my own personal experiences. Because of this I make it a point to truly examine all of these cases regardless of the color of the parties involved. In doing that I’ve come to realize that the most frequent common factors are not race but behavior and social standing.

I’m white. I can’t think about Tamir Rice, John Crawford, Eric Garner, and many others without it eating at my heart. I’ve watched videos, repeatedly, for hours and I’ve had discussions with other people, both black AND white. Both sides seem determined to believe what they believe, and they reach for whatever excuse they can find that usually has nothing to do with the incident being discussed. Like, Tamir Rice, for example. How can any sane and rational person watch that video and live peacefully with themselves calling it “justified”?! He was 12 years old! He had the bb gun behind him in the waistband of his pants and was ordered to drop the weapon. When he reached for it to do what he was told, they shot him dead. Those cops weren’t even out of their car for a minute and barked those orders as they were rushing up on him!

Here’s the deal though – if I’m not breaking the law – I’m ok. If I am breaking the law and get caught and cooperate because I’m busted – I’m ok.
