We all know how smart Jose is when it comes to press conferences. He literally has the press eating the words out of his mouth and printing them on their back page headlines.

This is his magnificent (Too enthusiastic for /r/reddevils) way to take the pressure off the team and onto him. Lets hope we win tomorrow so the players really believe in Jose and we turn into the sort of high intensity teams he has managed at virtually all of his previous clubs - it's just a matter of time.. Belief in the manager instills a long lasting belief in the players own abilities.

If not, the players wouldn't be receiving as much grief from the fans and media all the time after a loss; can't be good for anyone's confidence. I'm sure Jose can handle the media and I haven't felt that about a manager since Fergie.

Really? If that's how you feel, that's your problem. I think it's great. And I've always thought he's great with the media. He basically created four days worth of paper-talk with one word. Jose's a fucking genius when it comes to dealing with the press.

It's up to the players now to put the past 10 days to bed, and come out fired up to get three points.

The issue is the media. I'm not sure their vicious attack of Rooney has done his confidence any good.

criticism is the proper way to look at it, every footballer has/will experience it. There are bigger starts than wazza who have faced it. If you can't bring yourself up from it then you're only digging deeper into the gob shite you're already in. Rooney has faced this sort previously (may be at a lesser intensive level) and has come back strong. Don't expect a similar come back given his age factor but he will come back stronger than he is right now which is what he needs to do. He has to and I'm sure he'll be looking at it this way rather than thinking this is a vicious attack.

This is the situation we're in, trying to be positive and lift the mood a bit. Jose has said this in 2 interviews now I think so it's obviously something he's trying to do if you can understand the psychological aspect. I am not being sensationalist.

I was under the impression everyone knew Jose was the type of manager who controls the press conferences. I know what the post sounds like but read this article in particular.

Ask José Mourinho about the most important thing in coaching, and he will say ‘man management’. “Football for me is a human science; it’s about man, above everything else”, he told BBC Radio 4 in December 2011. For a man who sparks such intrigue, it’s a somewhat underwhelming response, yet his reference goes far beyond ‘rotating the squad’ and ‘keeping players happy’. Rather, it’s about a deep understanding and appreciation of players as complex human beings with desires and emotions, and the knowledge of how to exploit it.

Edit: Taking into account what was said here is it so far fetched to suggest his einsteins comment could be aimed at putting the team on a level pedestal again and balancing the pressure they are feeling taking into account his psychological advocation?

In such press conferences, Mourinho’s vocabulary is also interesting. Whereas British managers refer to their players as “boys” or “lads”, he calls them “men”. Watch or read any Real Madrid post-match event and the word occurs throughout. This fuels the sense of tribalism, making him sound almost like a war general speaking to his troops. Yet it also testifies respect towards the group, a treatment of players as grown-ups; men on an equal footing. By calling them men, he invites them to act maturely and take responsibility.
