While no, otherkin are not oppressed, currently, otherkin are most certainly discriminated against.

“But-”

No buts. We are being actively discriminated against by a community that believes us to be delusional, deceptive, attention seeking, and worthless. We are being attacked by a community that sometimes, quite literally believes we should be

-killed
-harmed
-neglected and abused as children
-forcibly sterilized
-forcibly admitted to mental institutions
-forced away from our spiritual beliefs and coping mechanisms
-forcibly selected as organ donors
-and much, much, more

Now, while I’m not going to compare our own battles to the struggles of those of other minorities (especially as someone has yet to be killed for being otherkin, though it will undoubtably happen someday), I am going to say that if we were a race, gender, or sexual orientation, this wouldn’t be something people would stand for.

This is, however, a huge problem. A completely huge problem. This is largely due to the amount of misinformation going around about us. You know, things like your common “otherkin are delusional,” “otherkin don’t know they’re human,” and “otherkin are just looking for attention.” We’ve all heard them. We’ve all dealt with them. It comes with this identity. I have no doubt that someone will latch onto this post and lob similar insults.

What I don’t understand is how after everything they’ve done to us, we’re still the bad guys. It isn’t like this is some small minority of antikin, either. This is quite a large chunk of them. We’ve done nothing to harm them. NOTHING. This unprovoked hatred is completely unacceptable, and we have no reason to just sit back and take it anymore.

This needs to change. This really needs to change.

Hey! So, I’m going to be starting an otherkin/fictionkin chat on kik. Nothing too fancy, just a group where we can hang out and do stuff like that. My kik is hoodieninja_7, send a message that way if you’d like to join, or have any questions. Now, before you send that message, just read over the rules so you agree with them, and know what not to do in the chat.

1. No sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, or other things along those lines.

2. Do not, under ANY circumstances, call doubles “fake.”

3. Explicit discussion of sexual acts does not belong in chat. First time, you get a warning. Second time, you get removed. If you absolutely must discuss it, do it over PM. Seriously, guys, think of the children.

4. No “kinshaming.” It doesn’t matter if they’re a slug or a dragon, they’re welcome in the chat.

5. If you can avoid it, don’t refer to someone by their skin color, nationality, race, or orientation. An example of this not being okay would be referring to someone as “the gay” if you had other information to refer to them by, like a name or a pronoun. An example of this being okay would be referring to someone as “the Korean,” if you had no additional identifying information for them. This is also okay when referring to yourself.

6. Do not intentionally start drama.

7. Respect people’s triggers. PTSD is a heck of a thing that manifests in some odd ways.

8. If someone tells you to stop doing something and has good reason for telling you this, stop.

9. Factkin who also happen to be otherkin or fictionkin are welcome, do not shame them for things they can’t control.

10. Respect the preferred names and pronouns of those around you.

11. Don’t diss systems for being systems. They can’t help it.

Uh… Hey. I am fictionkin. This is my blog. This is a sideblog of my typical memes and assorted bullshit blog. I won’t actively talk about memories or astral limbs here, unless something interesting happens, or someone asks. I’m a Fox McCloud fictionkin, questioning pacifist Undyne, and questioning X-Wing pilot. I’m cool with doubles, and use neutral pronouns for simplicity. If anyone wants to talk, send a message. Are you fictionkin? Do you enjoy fanart? Do you want to share this fanart with your fictionkin friends, without disrespecting artists?

Well, have I got the group for you!

Introducing: Showoff! A Skype (and possibly kik) group for sharing fanart of your fictotypes (and possibly kintypes).

Now, of course, we need some rules.

1. Don’t be a jerk to anyone. Not artists, not users, unless they were a jerk to you first.
2. Be ready to provide the artist’s username if asked. If you don’t have it on hand, use a reverse image search to find them. Remember, this chat is supposed to respect artists.
3. Fangirling/fanboying/fanbying over yourself is fine. We all do it sometimes. Don’t bash someone else for doing it.
4. There will be two chats. One for standard fanart, another for fanart that contains commonly triggering material. When in doubt, put it in the second chat. If you’re not in the second chat because you think it’d upset you, and you’ve got something that you think should go in the second chat, it’s probably fine in the first chat.
5. No outright porn or gore, anywhere. If you must share it, share it privately. Gore, as in guro, torture porn, etcetera. Things like simple injuries and blood do not count as gore, as they’re usually not the focus of the art.
6. Artistic nudity is understandable, and belongs in the second chat.
7. When REALLY in doubt, ask me where it should go.
8. You join the second chat with the knowledge that it contains potentially triggering material, and sexual content.

First of all, I want to clarify I don’t have a problem with otherkin. It’s a valid method of coping for people who dissociate often and you can totally do that if that’s your thing.

But I’m not here to discuss about otherkin. I’m bothered by people tagging my art as such, it sounds as if the drawing’s subject is them or drawn for them. And I know that’s not what they mean, but honestly, I’d love to see you scroll everyday through the tags and find 50% of them being tagged as “kin” and nothing else.

Actually, I don’t even mind when people tag it as “kin”, but when it goes like “thanks for drawing me!!!”, “for me!!!”, “thanks for the fanart!!!” it gets on my nerves. It’s more of a metaphorical thing than an actual thing, since I know people don’t really think I drew that specifically for them. But it still bothers me, because that’s my art and I worked a lot on it, mostly for myself.

Sorry if this bothers you or anyone else. I’m not trying to change anyone’s opinion, this only applies to my art, hope you understand!

To anyone that may see this: There are reasons for artists not wanting people to tag their art as kin other than being antikin. IF YOU TAG THEIR ART AS KIN REGARDLESS, YOU ARE BEING SELFISH AND DISRESPECTFUL, AND NEED TO STOP.
