From Ted Cruz: Source: https://www.facebook.com/tedcruzpage/posts/10154476728267464

This election is unlike any other in our nation’s history. Like many other voters, I have struggled to determine the right course of action in this general election.

In Cleveland, I urged voters, “please, don’t stay home in November. Stand, and speak, and vote your conscience, vote for candidates up and down the ticket whom you trust to defend our freedom and to be faithful to the Constitution.”

After many months of careful consideration, of prayer and searching my own conscience, I have decided that on Election Day, I will vote for the Republican nominee, Donald Trump.

I’ve made this decision for two reasons. First, last year, I promised to support the Republican nominee. And I intend to keep my word.

Second, even though I have had areas of significant disagreement with our nominee, by any measure Hillary Clinton is wholly unacceptable — that’s why I have always been #NeverHillary.

Six key policy differences inform my decision. First, and most important, the Supreme Court. For anyone concerned about the Bill of Rights — free speech, religious liberty, the Second Amendment — the Court hangs in the balance. I have spent my professional career fighting before the Court to defend the Constitution. We are only one justice away from losing our most basic rights, and the next president will appoint as many as four new justices. We know, without a doubt, that every Clinton appointee would be a left-wing ideologue. Trump, in contrast, has promised to appoint justices “in the mold of Scalia.”

For some time, I have been seeking greater specificity on this issue, and today the Trump campaign provided that, releasing a very strong list of potential Supreme Court nominees — including Sen. Mike Lee, who would make an extraordinary justice — and making an explicit commitment to nominate only from that list. This commitment matters, and it provides a serious reason for voters to choose to support Trump.

Second, Obamacare. The failed healthcare law is hurting millions of Americans. If Republicans hold Congress, leadership has committed to passing legislation repealing Obamacare. Clinton, we know beyond a shadow of doubt, would veto that legislation. Trump has said he would sign it.

Third, energy. Clinton would continue the Obama administration’s war on coal and relentless efforts to crush the oil and gas industry. Trump has said he will reduce regulations and allow the blossoming American energy renaissance to create millions of new high-paying jobs.

Fourth, immigration. Clinton would continue and even expand President Obama’s lawless executive amnesty. Trump has promised that he would revoke those illegal executive orders.

Fifth, national security. Clinton would continue the Obama administration’s willful blindness to radical Islamic terrorism. She would continue importing Middle Eastern refugees whom the FBI cannot vet to make sure they are not terrorists. Trump has promised to stop the deluge of unvetted refugees.

Sixth, Internet freedom. Clinton supports Obama’s plan to hand over control of the Internet to an international community of stakeholders, including Russia, China, and Iran. Just this week, Trump came out strongly against that plan, and in support of free speech online.

These are six vital issues where the candidates’ positions present a clear choice for the American people. If Clinton wins, we know — with 100% certainty — that she would deliver on her left-wing promises, with devastating results for our country.

My conscience tells me I must do whatever I can to stop that.

We also have seen, over the past few weeks and months, a Trump campaign focusing more and more on freedom — including emphasizing school choice and the power of economic growth to lift African-Americans and Hispanics to prosperity.

Finally, after eight years of a lawless Obama administration, targeting and persecuting those disfavored by the administration, fidelity to the rule of law has never been more important.

The Supreme Court will be critical in preserving the rule of law. And, if the next administration fails to honor the Constitution and Bill of Rights, then I hope that Republicans and Democrats will stand united in protecting our fundamental liberties.

Our country is in crisis. Hillary Clinton is manifestly unfit to be president, and her policies would harm millions of Americans. And Donald Trump is the only thing standing in her way.

A year ago, I pledged to endorse the Republican nominee, and I am honoring that commitment. And if you don’t want to see a Hillary Clinton presidency, I encourage you to vote for him.

Very well said. This actually makes me consider voting for Trump, especially if Senator Lee is someone he would nominate to the SCOTUS.

Yeah, it doesn't sound like he's pumped for Donald Trump, but that he feels he has no other choice. I can respect that.

It's not by any means a full-throated endorsement, but it's a good rundown of arguments for NeverTrumpers.

[–]Baine53Constitutionalist [スコア非表示]  (1子コメント)

Huh? I'm not sure what you're saying.

[–]gizayabasuTrump Conservative [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

I'm saying it's not necessarily the strongest endorsement, but it gives a reason for NeverTrumpers to reevaluate Trump.

I actually kind of respected him more when he didn't endorse him as bad as it sounds. Yeah, he said he would, but I understand his reasoning. I won't lose respect if he endorses him, though.

I feel like the devil is going to be in the details on the endorsement. If there's a tone of supporting Trump because he's less opposed to the ideals of less government and conservative polices and that it's important that the House and Senate remain within party control so that way those ideals can be brought to the White House to be enacted Cruz might be able to walk the line.

He left himself in a good position to run against Trump in 2020 should Trump win. Should Trump lose, he can't be seen as having helped Hillary as the Bushes, Kasich have. He's in a good spot to make another run.

I would be okay with this, as long as he does it like Levin did; endorse, but continue to call Trump out on his bullcrap. Don't unconditionally bow to the "god-king".

Alright, Ted, you win, I've grown to like you.

Bout time. I lost all respect for him when he refused to do so speaking at the RNC; this is nice to hear but hardly enough to repair my opinion.

He all but endorsed the Donald then. He said keep hillary out at all costs and vote your conscience. Logically can infer that he's voting for don.

[–]hayakyak [スコア非表示]  (1子コメント)

But he did not endorse. I'm hardly the only to feel this way; Adelson locked Cruz out of his private box after speaking. He was right to do so.

It's astounding that people can't seem to understand this. They also said that he broke his pledge by not endorsing Trump at the convention. The pledge (which was dumb to begin with) said that he would endorse Trump. It never said he had to do it at the convention.

[–]hayakyak [スコア非表示]  (3子コメント)

He did not do so, in contrast to every other major candidate. He also explicitly refused to endorse Trump later because that nasty guy said mean things about his wife. He needed to put his big boy pants on and follow thru with his obligations.

For what it's worth, I'll note that I voted for Cruz in the primaries.

Kasich and Bush still haven't endorsed. There's still a small chance that Kasich might, but Bush almost certainly won't.

I can't follow what you're saying. Thoughts are better constructed when they're put into complete sentences with minimal misspellings.

[–]hayakyak [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

Well, it's hardly my fault if you can't keep up. I'll grant I dropped one word, but every sentence is otherwise complete and "thru" hardly qualifies as a true misspelling.

I actually gained a lot of respect for him when he didn't endorse Trump during his RNC speech.

[–]Portal007 [スコア非表示]  (1子コメント)

I did too and I was someone who wasn't a big fan of Cruz before but have grown to like him

[–]Stn9Conservatarian [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

I've been a Cruz fanboy since day one. He's dead to me now.

[–]jsteve0 [スコア非表示]  (2子コメント)

If true, this will confirm what I've always felt about Cruz: he's more interested in his own political career than conservative policy, especially endorsing Trump just as Trump is gaining in the polls.

He gained some respect from me when called for voting conscience at the RNC, but this respect will be lost quickly.

I'm old enough to remember when Trump called Cruz's wife ugly, suggested he had multiple mistresses, and accused his father of plotting JFKs assassination.

[–]GaroldWilsonSnailJrConstitutional Conservative [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

Cruz made it clear he is begrudgingly endorsing him. Clinton is morally and politically worse, so I understand why he is doing it.

STOP. STOP. JUST STOP. Put all the sore loser shit behind you, Lord.

[–]RomoSexua1 [スコア非表示]  (2子コメント)

He just fucked himself. His brand is standing on principle. And he just endorsed the man who insulted his family.

He seemed to take the Mark Levin road. Honestly when you look at Charlotte and ISIS and just everything all together....the thought of more liberal rule is depressing. I dislike Trump like any conservative would, but the thought of another social justice presidency....barf.
