Remember that thread a guy made saying "I'm seeing my team go through their worst period"?

Yeah I support that club too.

We lost to a third division side yesterday.

Just put me out of my misery.

From Inter to Inter I hope you guys turn it around.

At least you guys still advanced. Sao Paulo beat a Serie C team yesterday, but lost on aggregate.

Just so you know, I witnessed Man City get beat off York City about 15 years ago and look at us now. It might get worse before it gets better, but I'm sure it will get better eventually! Chin up.

It's been 411 days since we last won away from home, which was against Bournemouth on the opening day last season.

It's been 768 days since I last saw us win away from home, when we beat Stoke on the opening day 2 seasons ago.

It's amazing how I still find ways to describe how shit we are.

An Aston Villa fan walks in to a pub with his dog just as the final scores are being announced on the telly. When Jeff Stelling confirms that Aston Villa have lost away from home the mans dog falls to the floor, rolls on his back, puts his legs in the air and plays dead.

"That's amazing" said the barman. "What does he do when Villa win?"

"I dunno" said the Villa fan, "I've only had him for 13 months".

So I was in Berlin last week- absolutely amazing city. So cheap, food's great, beer's great, and the transport is brilliant. It makes me think how far behind we are, at least in Ireland, in most of those- transport especially. So easy to get around!

Anyway, managed to get to the Herta-Schalke game, not the most entertaining match but great all the same. Loved the stadium, everyone was friendly and in good spirits, and two great goals.

In terms of Berlin itself, the history is so overwhelming, so interesting, and everything is incredibly well done. Would definitely recommend a visit.

When dressing a portion of chips, first add the vinegar followed by the salt. This is so the salt binds to the chip better. If you go salt first a lot of it will fall to the bottom of the plate, and then the vinegar will wash any remaining salt off. It's basic when you think about it but a lot of people get it wrong.

Always vinegar first. This is basic stuff. Anyone that does salt first almost certainly is either a nonce or puts milk in first before their tea and I do not know which is worse.

I'd like to give my statement about the Daily Q&A threads and feel like this is the best place to do it.

The mods seem fairly sure that people prefer the way it is now, but problem is I haven't seen a single person claiming that - Actually, what I've most seen is that people preferred when the sub wasn't just a compilation of quotes, goals and etc. So if you are so sure that most users prefer it this way (despite that there's no evidence of that), why don't we have a poll? Afterall, this is a democracy, not a dictatorship, right?

I have noticed that the front page looks a lot less discussion-y.

Without the discussion its just links to goals and shit facts. I can get most of that from twitter so it seems less appealing.

It also means that on non-playing days the only things you see near the top are shite articles like quotes from Yaya's mental agent and Mourinho v Pep v Wenger rubbish. At least some self posts would dilute these a bit, the Q&A thread gets nowhere near the top

What this sub needs most is more moderators. They wouldn't have to result to a bandage half-measure of daily Q&A threads if there were more than a handful of people actively helping. This is one of the top 10 subreddits on the site by traffic, yet they only have 13 human moderators. Should be more than twice that.

I've been thinking about how to boost discussion here a bit actually, and it wouldn't have to be that drastic or invasive to do. They could set Automod to enforce a character minimum for all top-level comments on posts with a [Discussion] tag or similar phrase in the title. Or maybe they could enforce it by post flair. Far from a perfect solution, but it would at least cut out a large portion of low-effort content and do so only in threads where the OP aims to solicit more in-depth analysis. Then you don't even have to bother the streamables, tweets, and match threads.

If they did want to take it a step further though and create an area for in-depth discussion in match threads, they could enforce a character requirement on anything in response to a top-level Automod comment within those threads. People would be free to engage in deeper discussions outside of that obviously, but you'd always have a place for it either way. Automod would just be coded to leave a comment in any post with "match thread" in the title explaining how the discussion area works.

I don't even understand the reason for it. Nobody complained about there being too many questions did they? Sure we'd get Messi vs. Ronaldo questions every so often, but that's what downvotes are for.

People will always find a way to shitpost. If there's people who want karma, they'll find a way to get karma anyway. I would prefer it at least if we could have a bit of fun and maybe even a bit of discussion while we are at it.

I feel like detailed OC discussion threads have gone down in quantity too. I am not inclined to post any myself in case it's too much of a question.

So yeah, agreed

[–]Hull CityPunainenapina 12

[–]Real Madridbolah 15

I don't agree, in fact I think we should also have a Daily Goals Thread, a Daily Quotes Thread and a Daily Match Discussion Thread; that way we would only have 4 posts per day!

[–]Hamburger SVSvorky 50

Eh, I mean look at how they introduced it: They asked about banning questions, this sub told them clearly to please not do it.

So they waited a while and then when Reddit introduced karma for self-posts (which had no influence as far as I can see), they said they need to immediately ban questions or this sub will go to shit, i.e. used it as an excuse to finally do what they wanted to all along.

They knew it would be unpopular, they know it still is. But I mean mods don't have to care about whats popular, and to a certain degree they should do the unpopular choice if it improves the sub.

I just think it would've been nice to come out and say so instead of weaseling around and making excuses like we're little kids. Pretty disrespectful tbh.

edit: Here's the post where they asked for the subs opinion. Pretty clear response.

[–]Al Ahly (Benghazi)DOUSED- 24

Jesus Christ that post where they ask everyone's opinion is pretty telling. How could they go against that? The sub was so clearly against the change.

They blatantly ignored it and when you criticize it, they only spout delusional shit like its a minority, etc... It fucking isn't. Have it so they get removed after an hour if its not like 30% or something AND LET THE COMMUNITY DECIDE

STOP THE OVERMODDING ITS KILLED THE SUBREDDIT (inb4 I'm perma banned and this entire comment chain is deleted)

Browsing /new has become pretty dull since the Q&A threads started. And they're not even stickied anymore, so if you have a question to ask you have to go through the pain of searching for the thread.

Yeah, as daft an idea as it was I could sort of see the reasoning behind it but what possible good could come from not stickying it? Surely that just defeats the purpose of the fucking thread in the first place...

[–]New ZealandJaumeBG 29

Also, posting in that thread 2+ hours later is pretty useless as no one will see the thread anymore. Meanwhile in other sports subreddits and in the /r/soccer of old you can simply ask a question whenever you want.

Agree. I had a thread last week auto removed for the daily Q&A thread that was made about 14 hours before, had about 3 responses in it and wasn't on the first few front pages so there'd be no point actually asking the question unless they permanently sticky each Q&A thread to the front page for a few days each, which is silly as there'd be loads of them on at once. Sometimes just asking a single question as a thread gives a lot of good discussion anyway so I don't see why we can't ask a legitimate question. Not something daft you see loads like 'Best uncapped XI?' and stuff you see loads but proper stuff.

even if they permanently sticky the daily q&a thread people would not use it.

[–]Al Ahly (Benghazi)DOUSED- 26

I'll be surprised if this doesn't get removed. They allow tons of shit quotes and gifs, but not questions? I think it makes their job easier so they like it, despite the majority of the subreddit disliking it. I am all for a poll

Subs massively gone down the pan recently. May aswell make it r/wengermourinhooragents

[–]The Netherlandszazzlekdazzle 13

I am with you 100%, this used to be one of my favorite places on the internet to check in, but now it's just a bore. I mean look at the front page on a day like today when there haven't been any matches for over 24 hours. Shit quotes from Mou and Wegner. Two days ago it was some twitter war between Pep and Yaya's agent. What actual, meaning ful, information about actual football is there? Almost nothing.

I live in a pretty limited world, football-wise, and I learned so much in this sub from the discussions we used to have -- about the sport, about the players, about other people involved and the politics.

The thing is, if people did really want the questions, why aren't the Q&A threads more popular? They never make anywhere near the front page.

And people still try to bring up discussions and the get shot down off the new queue.

This is just what people want here now, I suppose.

Bring back [Serious] so we can have in depth post match analysis instead of 'Pogshit' everywhere, I like it but sometimes serious discussion feels discouraged by the hurr durr Klopp <3 crowd.

I'm pretty sure someone said something like this on r/soccer not too long ago. They said Austin Powers so closely resembled James Bond that they had to change the style when Daniel Craig came in to a more Bourne-esque type of film.

Goldeneye for me, being in my mid twenties Pierce Brosnan IS James Bond. That and the game on the N64 is probably still the best shooter of all time.

Reckon I like the Roger Moore ones best. That would upset most Bond fanatics, but let's be honest here: Bond is always a bit silly even when it's trying to be serious. And it's at its best when there's no pretense and it just owns the silly thing. A bad guy's head inflating and carrying him off like a helium balloon? That's what I want from my Bond.

[–]Eintracht Frankfurtafito 5

I agree, I love Bond the most when it's on that "not even trying" level and just hilarious action scenes and insane levels of sexism. Like that one scene where there's a girl in the tub like "won't you hand me something to dress" and he gives her a pair of heels, that's why I watch(ed) Bond. If I want a truly great movie I watch something else anyway.

1 they had gone all the way up my ear and I just wasn't realizing yet that I had gone deaf (swiftly rejected due to me hearing things)

2 I had pulled them out in my sleep and tossed them away

I fell asleep again, and after getting out of bed I found them in bed, around my waist. Still, I wasn't prepared for the strange feeling of panic you get when you wake up and something you thought was there, isn't anymore.

Final day of cricket's County Championship today, three teams can win it. It's on SS1, do yourself a favour and watch it.

I'm writing a theatrical production about puns. It's nothing special, really, just a play on words.

[–]Columbus Crew SCpwade3 12

Finally going to a game this weekend. Haven't seen my team play in person since July. I feel like a bad fan, but it's so hard justify paying to see a team that is playing like utter shit. I still watch them on tv and all, so it's not like I'm just giving up on them. But a 4 hour drive round trip + paying for parking + paying for a ticket + at least something to drink just isn't worth it when I'm going to be paying to get pissed off watching a team that would be relegated if not for MLS.

Next weekend I'm going to see Kanye West in Cleveland, fucking stoked.

Bit of a shit week.

Found out my, now ex, girlfriend was cheating on me, on Friday. Got out of that.

Gate-crashed a freshers party on Tuesday, some stunning Latin girl and I were hitting it off, forgot to ask for her number or snapchat. Gutted.

Also, home alone for the next 2 weeks, with everyone in the house moved away or on holiday makes the place pretty boring.

I'm gonna be moving to the London area in the coming months which is also a scary thought.

[–]Sheffield Unitedjptoc 33

Unlucky about the girls.

London's fine though. Prepare to spend a lot of money though, especially when you meet up with /u/Bell_Whiff and I on our infamous nights out (down the local youth club alcohol free discos, before a cheeky romantic nandos together).

Haha remember that time we had that sugar rush from those blueberry Panda Pops and we knocked on that guys front door and ran away?!

[–]Sheffield Unitedjptoc 12

Good times. Up there with the time we tied someone's shoelaces together on the tube!

spent the week in cardiac care unit and missed the midweek football

didnt even glass my doctor

[–]KAA GentGustacho 5

Did football bring you in the cardiac care in the first place? :)

probably , years of watching inter and iraq couldn't have been good on me.

I recently re-watched Goal 2: Living The Dream and I'd forgotten what a masterpiece it is.

The first one was quality to middle school me, would you recommend the 2nd movie togheter with a couple of beers?

[–]Tottenham Hotspurborensoren 9

Having a job is annoying because all I want to do is power my way through Stranger Things.

As an aside, it'd be nice if there was a thread about Toulouse or Nice without the same dumb puns in it every time.

[–]JuventusTheOneWho_Knocks 18ポイント19ポイント  (6子コメント)

It's Milan fashion week and I hate it. Traffic everywhere, took me 3 hours for going and return to where i needed to be(for 5min) by tram. A lot of beatiful models around though, but the fact that they see you either on public transportation or by foot and not in an Audi/Mercedes make them look at you like a peasant. And they're right.

So this was my first week of Uni and just by looking at the thread icon I felt like throwing up. I've had WAYYYYY to much beer than I care to admit this week

[–]Preston North EndGarnersLight 7

After finally picking up my sports science paper yesterday I went out and had the bender of a lifetime, totally worth it.

It's also Preston v Wigan tonight, can't wait to finally see McGeady and hope he continues his excellent form.

Going to the Wigan match for a work do. Should be good.

I have 3 weeks of highschool left and I'm kinda freaking out

[–]Bayern MünchenUlrichHoeness 59

you should be. it all goes downhill from there. steeply.

[–]Columbus Crew SCpwade3 6

That's more of your own fault.

College to real life is pretty jarring, but even then, not exactly downhill.

What's your plans afterwards mate? High school is a laugh but in my opinion things get better after it. Life isn't any easier or harder but your problems go more from stupid petty shit to things like bills, which isn't necessarily a bad thing

[–]Swansea CityVondi 3

Just wait until you have 50 years of working left.

Just got to a hotel for a weekend of stupid HR exercises. Good part is that I came by car by myself and its a beautiful day. The hotel is pretty empty now and there's a perfect silence going on.

Bad part is that in 3 hours this ends and there'll be fucking stupid and loud people around all the time.

So I ended up in Pop World last night...I'm actually scum but it's the best club going and there can't be any arguments.

We have a Pop World in Southampton and it's awesome.

best club going

Yeah when the Raz is shut.

[–]EvertonGiraffe_Baker 4ポイント5ポイント  (3子コメント)

Pop World during Freshers week?

That'll either be class or just hell.

booked my train ticket for Prague this morning. really looking forward to it, have never been there.

I'll be there next Thursday to Sunday. also my friend who studies there is letting me stay at her apartment so I don't even need to pay for a hostel or anything

Viewing a house a week tomorrow, first mortgage if it goes ahead all without any issues. Pretty nervous times.
