I definitely think we should be playing Carrick more, I know he can't constantly play 90 minutes games, but I think Mourinho should try to work around this. It would be nice to see Carrick start games and get those creative passes in. We could set up more aggressively and hopefully get some goals earlier in the game. Then sub out Carrick after halftime or 60 minutes for someone like Fellaini or Schneiderlin depending on the opponent. Fellaini for teams with more aerial threats and Schneiderlin for quicker teams to break up attacks.
I would also use Rashford and maybe Memphis as impact subs later in the game. If we play around Carrick and his ability to find passes, we could initially set up to have high pressure and keep the game in the opposing half. Ideally this would lead to a lot of scoring opportunities and result in goals.
Then we could transition into a more defensive set up with Rashford, Fellaini/Schneiderlin, and perhaps Memphis coming on to have pace for counter attacks in the second half.
Not exactly a formation discussion, but moreso a discussion about playing around our current roster and how we can get the best out of them. What do you think?
