Well a lot of the machinery is inside the tank so I can assume most repairs back in the day didn't involve climbing out of the tank.

Oh please, are you trying to justify repairing inside the vehicle as a realistic game mechanic because components are inside the vehicle? If we're on the topic, pretty sure a slug capable of penetrating the armour and engine block of a tank isn't going to be repaired by someone inside. Is it a viable GAME mechanic? Sure. But don't try and sell it as realistic because "the parts are inside."

Most repairs were done inside the tank, if "a slug capable of penetrating the armour and engine block" landed then chances are it's beyond the point of repair. I was just saying that repairing inside the tank is for the most part historically accurate.
