Rooney vs Carrick: More admired player? (self.reddevils)

So on my mind. Amongst the United faithful, who would you say is a more admired player in your mind? I don't think there can be any question that Rooney has contributed more, but he's historically had so much against him, unlike Carrick who in my mind is the definition of a true servant in vein of a Solkjaer and Fletcher as well as being criminally undervalued during his tenure with the club, and England for that matter.

I know in my mind I would go Rooney. Not looking for heated debate here necessarily, just a gauge of where others would be.

I admire both of them.

Rooney is hated much for lots of obvious reasons (questioning the ambition of the club to the break out with Fergie to putting in transfer requests twice, also reported he wouldn't hesitate to join a rival club). Since then every given opportunity some fans, not all, made him the scapegoat. Again, all attributed towards the obvious reason of the past. And, I also read here, yesterday or day before, fans who live in Manchester and surrounding don't rate him for the past 3-4 years. That's not entirely true, maybe majority hate him. I follow a person on twitter, from Manchester, he often talks about United before Fergie, and how fans used to be patient etc etc. He loves Rooney, defends him to the core. Whereas Carrick hasn't had any obvious reasons a la Rooney, but I've seen him being slated not once but many times in the past for his performances e.g. UEFA final against Barca. But yes, as you said very underrated player, goes by doing his job quietly sans fuss.
