Memphis Depay did NOT play well tonight (self.reddevils)

I don't know what it is with r/reddevils and players who don't get minutes. They automatically forget how utter crap these players are when they played and that they have gotten many chances. It's like they think a quick miraculous fix will happen and when they eventually do play their performances are ridiculously exaggerated.

Memphis depay was playing against a lower league team tonight yet he looked like he would have fit in playing for Northampton. He slipped all over the place, he barely beat his man. Didn't create many chances. Yet on the matchday thread everyone was gutted he was coming off. I mean what the fuck?

He was very very poor again.

Yeah basically. I don't think he set the world on fire but he was decent going forwards and I'd certainly like to see him get more chances this season.

I think this weekend we will see Rashford on the left and Mata on the right with Ibra up front again though.

I suggest you rewatch the game. He rarely lost the ball and was the only attacking player trying to make something happen when he was on. He didn't have many options to shine seeing as everyone around him bar Herrera was static.

Exactly, the final thing he did before coming off was a clever scoop pass that barely was cut out by the defender that would've sent Rooney in on goal, he's stopped for the most part blasting long shot after long shot and looks a lot better to me

Exactly, the lack of movement was pretty apparent. He ended up receiving the ball on the edge of the box with his back to goal a number of times, and for most players it's hard to be productive when there's little off ball movement around you.

He crossed a few balls in that would've been good if our number 9 god Wayne Rooney wasn't playing in line with our holding midfielder Carrick OUTSIDE of the box.

Exactly! Can't count how many times I was frustrated with Rooney's positioning. He was basically a 4th central midfielder during the 1st half, we didn't have a striker during that half.

Ok, he was very bright for the first 20 mins and then turned off. Was good for the first 10-15 mins of the second half and got subbed. That's my unbiased feedback

He looked like someone who's short of game time, definitely wasn't bad. He needs a run of games before we starting calling him out. I felt bad when he got subbed. I think once we're back to winning ways in the league, he'd be getting more minutes in the EFL, Europa or FA Cup.

He was brilliant. Sharp passing with zip to it. Turning on a six pence and confidently keeping the ball and was unfortunate not to score when 1v1 with the keeper and carrick played a sublime pass in.

I enjoyed his performance more than Rooneys thats for 100% certain.

He did ok, he was really trying, maybe too hard. Very little movement around him that was a bigger problem.

Memphis wasn't bad, but he didn't set the World alight either. Thought Mensah was equally average. I like him and thus want him to do well, but thought he was dozy on a couple of occasions, the 2nd time the penalty was conceded.

I thought he was great. A few chances didn't work out like that flick on to Roo, but for a player I am sort of indifferent on, he impressed with skill and creation attempts.
