Trump Jr uses an analogy of:
If you had a bowl of Skittles, and I said three were poisoned, would you take a handful?
The one simple analogy is a microcosm of the entire Trump candidacy and campaign.
The analogy itself is stupid in multiple ways. Skip to the next paragraph if this already occurred to you. Just to breeze through in sentence fragments... No one says to eat immigrants; it addresses emigration OUT OF the bowl; it specifically addresses what "he said"; and it's literally more complicated than asking about reality - "If you had a bunch of immigrants, and I said three were dangerous, would you allow in a handful of them?" A better analogy would be "If you had a bowl of Skittles, a few of which were poisoned, would you add in a handful of other Skittles".
I'd speculate Trump Jr picked Skittles as the example because they taste like artificially flavored ear wax. Nonetheless, it's odd that he picked a candy with the slogan "Taste the Rainbow", and specifically with an analogy about eating immigrants. Maybe I'm the only one to see a homophobic layer to the analogy about Tasting the Rainbow by eating immigrants.
So, speaking to Trump supporters, he obviously couldn't rely on them being capable of imagining a bowl of Skittles without assistance, so he needed to use a picture. The picture was not just copyrighted, and used without permission, but owned by a refugee immigrant. The odds are staggering.
On top of all that, it turns out that Trump Jr isn't the only one to use poisoned food as an analogy for immigration. Joseph Goebbels used a German fairy-tale with a similar plotline.
