Confusion regarding Pogba (self.reddevils)

When he was still at Juventus, he was being hailed as arguably the best box to box midfielder in the world. And yet, I'm seeing a bunch of United fans saying he's an attacking minded number 10, and that his job shouldn't be to defend. I know Fellaini is not the best midfield partner to have but, if you were the best box to box player on the planet, surely a two man DM formation shouldn't be a problem...

I don't think either is entirely correct.

Pogba is a very attack-minded box-to-box player. In that role, his biggest weakness is he is poor defensively; his biggest strength is that he is an absolutely elite ball carrier. He's absolutely not a 10.

Because of those strengths/weaknesses, he plays best in a midfield 3 - he can run forward into space, and he is freed from doing defensive work because of the CDM behind him.

The physical body is his best advantage, maybe the only one. end of story.

He was never really a true box-to-box to be honest. He was shielded by Pirlo and Marchisio there. We need someone to play that role here.
