This post took balls, I'm assuming it's an alternate account, but still. This shouldn't be deleted, there needs to be some balance to the opinions on this sub.

Nah, I've been browsing this sub for a long time. Moved over once football365 became shit four or five years ago. Just never felt the need to write a post till now.

Welcome then

Thanks. Getting downvoted to oblivion. Seems I've peeved a fair few people by sharing an opinion they disagree with.

Mkhitaryan was shit for 1 game, Pogba for 3 games, Rooney for 3 years.

same. we're not playing well as a unit, yet people only look to point fingers at individuals.

Rooney not playing well and the rest of the squad not playing well are not independent things. By forcing Rooney into the team we cause an imbalance in the squad, play other players out of position, and can't try different formations (e.g. Mata/Mkhitaryan at RW, no 4-3-3, Pogba playing too deep, Zlatan and Rooney occupying the same positions, etc.).

It's unfair to hold Pogba (a brand new player with a massive price tag on his head who has only played a few matches), Martial (a young player dealing with personal life drama), Shaw (coming back from a horrific injury), Zlatan (a player on the tail end of his career and new to the PL), etc. to the same standards as our club captain. For Rooney, we have a history of poor performances to look back on; for the other players, don't forget we are on our third manager in 4 seasons and it's only a handful of games into this season.

Mkhitaryan got Bundesliga player of the year, If Rooney gets dropped and Pogba moves up or Mkh in 10 we will have more about us going forward. United fans that watch every game know that the demise of Rooney is not a surprise, its just got to the point where its accepted now regardless of what hes done in the past, which is a lot. No amount of "heart" can make up for his inability to bring the ball under control or stop being a absolute ball losing machine.

lol I have not missed a single game since the '02/'03 season. Also, wasn't Kagawa a Bundesliga hot shot who got found out in the PL? Or are we still blaming Rooney for his failure as well.

I should have clarified. My argument is not that he should be undroppable in the present due to his past accomplishments. I merely wanted to comment on how ridiculous the hate for Rooney is on this sub in spite of them. The upvoted fuck off to China comment really triggered me.

So you can accept he has been in a sharp decline for a few years now. Don't get me wrong, young Wayne with that spark and fire was one of my favourite players. You will get the occasional fans that will go over the top after a loss, but the reality is who is going to pay £250,000+ wages for a fading superstar name, China?

Wait so people were okay with/arguing for keeping an ageing German star undergoing an even steeper decline, who made himself unavailable so he could be fit for his national team, who regularly left the city to watch his significant other play tennis? Just because he brought experience and leadership to squad? But Wayne should bugger off to China because he isn't as good as he was a few years ago?

I mean people were in agreement that Moyes and LVG had a questionable philosophy on how the team should play. Rooney's apparent decline (bear in mind he had the best stats on our team during this period) could have something to do with the play style the team adopted? Because I certainly recall most of our players being shit during this period, not just Rooney. I think Rooney merits a shot under Mourinho and if he doesn't come up with the good then sure he should be benched. But presently he is being held to a higher standard than all our other under performing players. Which in my opinion is unfair.

Rooney is not a scapegoat. He's the root of the problem. If you can't remove the root completely, the problems will still be there.

The issue is that a manager can't create a new system with Rooney in the picture. Building a new system takes more than one or two games. So no, sitting him for one game won't change anything. He needs to be out of the picture so Mourinho can create something that plays to other players' strengths, rather than just one past-it "legend".

He is not a scapegoat.

I disagree in that I reckon he still has a lot to offer this team even if it's not as a guaranteed starter. But the only way to find out is for him to get dropped and for Mourinho to play the starting 11 with Mata/Mkhi that everyone wants. My guess is Mata will be found out and Mkhi will have a steep learning curve the way most newcomers to league do. Remember all the expectations we had when Memphis signed?

Im sorry mate but thisnis utter non-sense. Sure he has been a great olayer for us but that must all end at some point and in this current team he is a very very obvious weak link and has now leaked to the press intimate details of a new reigime to protect his own interests.

Its fairly obvious its him with the leak.

You say he ran alot in those games sure he did but he failed repeatedly to take control of the game in key positions and was caught in posession, slow in the transition and played the ball out when he had simple passed on. Now we have a situation where players like Miki, Ander, Longard, Memphis etc are simply not being given a chance bacause we have to shoe horn Rooney into line ups.

He needs to be dropped instantly and furthermore the club needs to move on from him as an institution. Rooneys time at United is up.
