MEDINA, TX (RNN) – A Texas school placed a sign out front that warns passersby the faculty may be armed.

The board of trustees at Medina Independent School District, a school that houses 303 students from pre-kindergarten through high school, decided to put a warning out to would-be attackers.

“Attention,” the sign reads. "Please be aware that the staff at Medina ISD may be armed and will use whatever force is necessary to protect our students."

The sign was placed by a school entrance Wednesday, and two other signs will eventually join the first.

After discussing the matter for a year, the boards of trustees say they ultimately felt the sign was necessary based on “the general environment nationally,” not a specific incident.

Superintendent Penny White, whose son attends the school, hopes the sign will deter all kinds of violence, not just school shootings.

She says the sign hasn’t received any negative comments so far.
