Look guys, I love this sub. I really do. This sub has some of the funniest shit I've ever seen. Copypastas have become my daily snacks here. But recently I can't help but notice how recently the "objective" statements that we've been satirizing on this sub have been used in order to defend some games that are subject to heavy criticism, triggered by innocent opinions.
The amount of blind hate that NMS and Fallout 4 receive is hilarious and unnecessary, I get it. But the problem I find on this sub is that any criticism against these "poor, innocent games" is immediately lumped with the O B J E CT I V E circlejerks like this.
Similarly, the same repetitive, shallow bashing of Fallout 4 or NMS that we mock is seen on this sub, accept that it is viewed as acceptable as long as it is used over games that themselves have a very circlejerky fanbase, like Witcher 3.
Sure, Witcher 3 has some ridiculous fans that are WAY too far up Geraldo's ass, but why is Witcher judged more harshly here than any other game? Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, yeah, but when I find posts like this upvoted it just goes to show that the very mindset of objectively-good content that we mock on this sub still exists, albeit is seen with games that are considered mainstream or "over-praised". In this particular case, this user HAD NOT EVEN PLAYED THE GAME, but his "research" (r/gamingcirclejerk?) has led him to believe that Witcher 3 is a "run-of-the-mill, mediocre" fantasy game. Although I find this opinion ridiculous given that he's never played the game, he is entitled to it. What I find concerning, however, is the blind upvoting of his "review" and the downvoting of basically any post that gives Witcher 3 any kind of credit on this thread.
Or even here, on the top post of today, where another "mainstream" game that Lord Total Biscuit would approve of, Fallout NV, is criticized and is downvoted for it. This guy points out what he believes is a flaw of Fallout 3, a game that is often shit on by the fanatical "cynical gamers", but this guy just rudely discounts his opinion and O B J E C T I V E L Y claims that Fallout 3 did it better, no questions asked. The thing is I AGREE with this guy's point, I think Fallout 3 was better in terms of random exploration, but the way he disregards the other poster's opinion and views his own as concrete FACT just irks me.
