Effective immediately I resign my position as moderator at /r/the_donald and all of its ancillary subreddits.

I do this not because we did anything unethical, but because the launch certainly could have been done better much better and as a result of a terribly executed launch the Nimble America controversy has become too much of a distraction for me to continue to be on the moderator team here.

Billboards were purchased last July and Nimble America was looking to launch ahead of the DNC, but several moderators voiced reasonable objections to the launch. Their concerns were that we had no lawyers and, with us being anonymous redditors, a lack of credibility that would lead people to believe this was a money grab. So the project was scrapped, until…

A rich man contacted us from his verified facebook account.

The FEC limits how much an individual can donate to a political campaign. Our rich friend wanted to help by working with us to shitpost across America, but accepting any help meant we had to form some sort of organization in order to not run afoul of the FEC’s rules. So we hired lawyers, we put up a web site, we registered a physical address, we filed all of the necessary paperwork, and we reached out to Milo for help with verifying the authenticity of the rich man's reddit account when launching Nimble America. Based on who the rich person was, and that alone, Milo agreed to have one of his interns post a comment verifying the authenticity of his account.

With Milo’s help we certainly would not have anyone thinking this was some pathetic scam. Certainly there was too much for him to lose. Thinking that Milo is doing anything wrong is ridiculous. He’s got too much to lose and too little to gain by doing this. Which of the following scenarios seems more plausible?

Scenario 1: Milo is involved in some scam that could, at best, net the group a five figure sum to split amongst themselves. Lawyers were hired and official papers were filed along with everything that entails in order to scam some reddit users. Milo is risking a lucrative career and jail time in order to partake in this scam.

Scenario 2: There actually was a rich guy and Milo authorized one of his interns to use his reddit account to vouch for the rich guy based solely on who this person is. This rich guy really would prefer to remain anonymous and using a trusted public figure to verify the rich guy made the most sense to the people behind Nimble America. The execution was done poorly and now Milo, the person who very generously put his reputation on the line, is getting shit on by his own fans.

Just to make it clear that Milo's involvement was minimal, here is the email conversation that I initiated with him regarding Nimble America. I described Nimble America as a PAC by mistake, the organization is actually a 501(c)4.

I am sorry that there is division amongst supporters of Mr. Trump. I am terribly sorry that Milo’s getting his name dragged through the mud over this. There was no malicious intent here.
