Why can't we do the same with Rooney?

I really wish fergie had stayed one more season. Rooney would have been gone.

Rooney seems to be the problem with United not having a certain style since Fergie left. He is too slow and immobile for an attacking player now.

Ferguson doesn't get nearly enough stick for how he left the club. He dropped us like a hot bag of shit by leaving so much unresolved.

He left Moyes with a terrible team that only he could get anything out of; most of which have now been moved on. He was clearly getting ready to sell Rooney when he started benching him towards the end but he left that in limbo. Then masochist Moyes comes in (ridiculous endorsement from Ferguson) and give him a shiny new contract. Moyes needed him to be fair else it could have been much worse, especially with RVP injured.

If we palay Zalatan upfront, we need someone with pace in the 10. Rashford or Mkhi should be playing behind Zlatan and overlapping with him to make space. Rooney just drops even deeper and it means the defence can just step up and we're easy to deal with.

We don't need someone with pace really but need someone with better close control and creativity in their short passing. Mind you we shouldn't be playing with a #10 really with Pogba. Should be a 4-3-3 but not with an immobile player like Fellani who has poor distribution and discapline

Maybe potentially but he's a box to box midfielder. Your average football consumer wants to see goals and are more likely to recognize a player who is scoring or has scored goals rather than someone who dictates the tempo of the match.

Pogba doesn't dictate the tempo of a match Rooney hasn't scored a lot for a while and Pogba scores flashy goals also Rooney isn't Nike's golden boy anymore either

Pogba is a box to box midfielder who dictates the tempo of a match. Rooney had a very mediocre/poor season last year and still scored 3x the amount of goals Pogba scored. Not because he's better, but because he's a striker. When it comes to flashy goals Rooney has a lot more than Pogba i.e. overhead kick vs City/Halfway vs West Ham. I'd like to stress again that I don't think Rooney is better than Pogba nor that Pogba doesn't have the potential to be more marketable than Wayne, but at the current moment Rooney is still more marketable to Manchester United.

I wouldnt say Pogba is b2b because he doesnt do enough defensive work. Rooney goals against West ham and city are ages ago now people don't follow I doubt people follow Rooney because he scores when he doesn't score a lot anymore and his goals are spectacular

The goal vs West Ham was two years ago, hardly ages. The goal vs City is iconic and will be showed in every Manchester Derby promo from now until forever. Fair point about Pogba's lack of defensive work and it will be interesting to see how Mourinho uses him in the future but at Juventus he was used as a box to box midfielder.

After the last europa leage game I was watching what kind of attitude we would have on the pitch without rooney. In the Watford game it was the same. He only turns up 1 in every 5 games. I Was all for him at the start of the season but I think it's time to push him out the door. He's a drain on club resources and funds. I'd happily have herrera in his place.

And I'm sick of all the excuses by some of the fans: "Well he wasn't that bad" "There were worse players on the pitch" "He just had a bad game" all that shit does not cut it when he's our captain. The player that's undroppable. The player that is on crazy wages. He's been off form for years now and I can name at least 3 players that should be starting every game ahead of him. I keep saying this: Rooney's role at the club should be that of a super-sub. He can absolutely make an impact still. We saw that as recently as last season...

But the sort of impact he makes these days with 90 minutes on the pitch is such a mixed bag and often negative.

Put him on for 20-40 minutes to change the complexion of a match after most of the game is gone - and as long as his ego accepts it, his performances should be pretty good again.
