it's going to happen imo. the way i see it, in a way man's ultimate purpose is to create something that surpasses him. god created man in his image, man will create something in his image as well. the human brain is basically a computer that you can program. our fatal weakness is that we are limited to our biology, it makes progress and the ability to make changes very slow as well as short lifespans. our species is forced to impart knowledge on the next generation which we can agree that wisdom is very hard to pass on, we have generations and entire societies making the same mistakes. we're basically ancient greece except with computers. it's actually pretty interesting the idea of a being that is self aware and is capable of modifying his own programming, as well as being immune to aging. i don't see it as something that would be like in the matrix where the machines revolt against the humans and try to destroy them. i can on the other hand see them culling humanity of its undesirables, all the sociopaths and politicians, people who are destroying the world. they would probably end up treating humans the way we treat other animals. we don't exactly impede our dogs rights when we keep one as a companion. we don't let them drive our cars and all that stuff, but we keep them nontheless.
