Manchester United great Vidic recalls moment Moyes asked him to study Jagielka

Manchester United won five Premier League titles with Nemanja Vidic in defence but David Moyes asked him to study Everton defender Phil Jagielka.

Manchester United great Nemanja Vidic has all but confirmed David Moyes asked him and Rio Ferdinand to watch videos of Everton defender Phil Jagielka.

Before Moyes was sacked in April 2014 it was claimed he asked arguably United's greatest central defensive partnership to observe the Everton artisan - whom Moyes signed from Sheffield United in 2007.

Ferdinand laughed off the claim when it was put to him two years ago, but admitted in his book he told Vidic after a video session with Moyes: 'I don't know what the f**k he just asked us to do.'

Vidic was asked how he felt when 'Moyes made you and Rio Ferdinand watch videos of Phil Jagielka defending' and whether it was as big a deal to the pair as had been suggested at the time.

"Players don’t always like what managers say to them," Vidic told FourFourTwo . "That’s normal – it even happened with Fergie.

"The sad thing for me wasn’t any specific incident; it was that with David as manager and me as captain, we didn’t do well. As a team we wanted to prove people wrong after Fergie went. We hoped to be better. We were not.

"We all lost and must share the responsibility and guilt, David as manager and me as captain."

Ferdinand and Vidic won five Premier League titles, the Champions League and the Club World Cup during their eight-and-a-half years together at United.

Vidic decided to leave United at the end of the 2013-14 season for Internazionale and Ferdinand left at the same time after the club did not offer him a new contract.
