Previously on Rival Watch... Liverpool beat Chelsea 2-1.

De Bruyne once again showing how important a world class no 10 is. Quick footed and quick thinking, so difficult to play against compared to players who need three touches before even deciding what to do with the ball.

What's more critical is that other players are working hard to open up space for each other. The second goal showed that quite well; four players hauling ass and making the right runs. If it were us, Rooney would probably have had to stop at the halfway line to wait for a couple of players to join in the attack and people would start calling him all sorts of names.

A lot of our squad simply aren't capable of playing that way due to a lack of mental or physical speed. Rooney/Mata/Fellaini just can't do it.

There was a time (about 2008) when we had a a young Rooney with Tevez and Ronaldo on either side of him, we used to look like scoring every time the other team had a corner !

The counter attack against Arsenal (champions league?) was another classic example of that.

We scored before most fans (and the entire Arsenal squad) even noticed it had been cleared from our box.

There are quite a lot of examples, we did it fairly regularly for a period of around (5?) years.

Around that time was the best we've ever been. The quickness wasn't about just running with the ball, we had a host of players who could consistently make intelligent split second decisions whilst doing so.

We mostly lack those sweet touches to start off the attack, combined with the willingness to run up together as a unit. Pogba can gallop like a motherfucker in space, Martial, Rashford, Mhiki, Lingard can all run and even Rooney can still sprint quite well....fuck even Gundogan scored now.

We need to keep winning to keep pace, if not EPL might end up looking like Bundesliga table cometh the end. That said, I also think City cannot keep this hard work going all season, at some point they will slow down

I can't bring myself to watch City. They are so fluid, dangerous and just amazing offensively. They are susceptible at the back, but I wish we looked this good going forward.

Their attack is effortless. The movement on and off the ball is marvelous and easy on the eyes. I hope, that after our squad comes together, we can play similar football.

Also, I wish we had gone in for KDB when he was available. He is absolutely world class and would've been fantastic to watch.

With players like De Bruyne, Sterling, Nolito, Silva behind the striker they are scary.

When Aguero comes back and slots into that striker position I think injuries or some major team meltdown are the only two obstacles stopping then winning the league. That and us of course...
