What they are describing is not illegal. PACs are essentially private groups much like a charities or unions who pull resources and money to support a particular cause. The biggest caveat is they have to act independent of the official campaign and parties.

For example, if I maxed out my political contributions I could independently put up a billboard, ad, or commercial for a candidate. If I didn't have enough money, you and I could pool our resources. If we take that concept to its logical extreme we could create an organization that collects donations to support a likeminded cause. That's what a political action committee (PAC) is.

From the context of the original message the other poster seemed to be concerned with Nimble_Rich_Man circumventing FEC regulations not whether the PAC was legit or not. I was just try help the other poster understand what PACs are and why they can do what they do without it being illegal to donate beyond FEC limits. For the sake of simplicity I didn't want to mention the legitimacy of the Nimble America organization because it seemed to be outside the context of his question.

However, yes, from what I've read you are correct Nimble America is not a legit PAC. Which goes beyond circumventing FEC rules into straight up fraud. I'm curious though, where can we look up PAC information? For instance, I couldn't find it listed on OpenSecrets but is it possible it takes a bit for their database to update?

    Check the site, click on word billboard, in "We already have a billboard" and you get this image...

    Which could be a shop that someone planted there, or some kind of "mistake", or this whole thing has been a master troll.

    Milo has indeed changed personality a bit since he went on his weight loss quest, I don't remember when, like 6 months ago? According to his vids his weight loss is due to his personal trainer making him eat well and work out, but perhaps some drugs are involved as well. Although of course weight loss itself can make one change their behaviour.

        As I said on the other posts. The mods at t_d stickied 2 posts begging for people to donate to this superpac (that isn't showing up as being a registered PAC). The subscribers called out the shilling for money and the threads got removed. There was also a recent mod shakeup within the past few hours. Mod overthrow?

        Ah, it's a 501c(4) dark money group. Technically, 50% of its spending can't be on electioneering, and must be spent on "education," which means that anything can be done with the money. Heck, you could hire yourself as an education consultant and funnel the money to yourself.

        Oh, and being a 501c(4), it doesn't have to disclose its donors, and the organization is untaxable. They registered the charity in a state with low incorporation fees (Connecticut), probably through a service that provided them office space to use on paper that thousands of other such corporations use.

        This is a textbook case of a dark money group, and they're fiendishly easy to make. You don't even need attorneys, you just need a PayPal account with ~$500 in it.

        I did this as a high school project once. Creating groups like Nimble America take no effort.

        This is hilarious.

        You can even file incorporation forms for 501c(4)'s online in Connecticut, at this link. The idea that The_Donald hired attorneys is crazy. They were gypped, if they did.

        Now I'm thinking about creating a SubredditDrama 501c(4) shell corporation, to "educate" the public about internet drama, and elect candidates that understand the value of popcorn.

        No, because 501c(4)'s do not have to register with the FEC. Super-PACs do, though.

        Frankly, who would want to use a Super-Pac? They have to disclose their donors, and their books are open to more scrutiny.

        It just takes one mod spending an hour filing papers online and paying fees and registering and copying CSS for the website.

        I mean, sure, other mods might have been included, but operations like this don't have to be large conspiracies.

        "Involvement" might just mean that other mods heard about this and typed "that sounds good, man," instead of doing their research.

            Technically it is, but it's a 501(c)(4). Any contributions made to them are not tax deductible for the average person. They also don't have to disclose big donors (corporate or individual) who can give them unlimited amounts of money. Naturally this has been abused to the point where these types of setups have spent hundreds of millions on election ads. Their political activity is supposed to be limited, but the IRS hasn't done much to enforce the rule. It a big problem.

                Nope. Some games have multipliers and base stats where you can basically add to or otherwise modify base stats but not easily. That gives a general guide to scaling and power of a character just knowing their approximate status implier (say level) but still has room for a lot of wiggle especially whem certain things end up working like independent multipliers on base while others scale off bonus or multiplied stat.... er.... the point is it"s a thing.

                    This was such a disaster. The vast majority of the mod team had nothing at all to do with this, yet we are the ones being yelled at. It was a top down decision. There are no new mods. We are still the same team.
