Personally I find 'seems excited to see you' more worrying after the Death spam, but really there's a lot of mildly troubling subtext there.

I feel like, as a sub, we're finally getting to the acceptance phase.

First, We couldn't handle it. We denied the lies. We played the game telling ourselves that the cool planets were out there, we just couldn't see them.

Next we were angry. We demanded refunds. We stomped our feet and shouted "Sean Lied!"

Then we bargained. Please oh please, HG, just a little more content. Ok, maybe just patch notes. Ok OK, maybe just a tweet here and then.

Depression set in. We found ourselves crushed by the weight of an empty galaxy; endless hopelessly unappealing tasks lay before us.

The reality is here. We have accepted our fate. And will now shit-post our feelings away.

Mhmm. Its almost as entertaining in here as /r/arrow.

We should just go full retard and ban all NMS posts, only allowing people to discuss the classic Asteroid game.

Or just become an Elite: Dangerous subreddit.

Edit: I would like to take this opportunity to say it will have to be a Federal sponsored subreddit, of course.

Now THAT'S an idea!

Perfect. /r/arrow switched after a very disappointing episode, so we should just wait for the next patch that just brings some small bug fixes and switch then.

Not just any episode, the finale. And one of the worst finale's I've ever seen - season or series, in any show. And I saw the finale to "How I met your mother"

And Dexter?

He's a lumberjack in heaven!

No, I quit after the fourth season on that one. I was warned.

Except for the last season, the other seasons after the fourth still have their moments.

But nowhere near the consistency of the earlier. I like to describe the writing and Dexter's narration as going from Anthony Bourdain to Andrew Zimmern

Best season was with John Lithgow. Hands down.

Seriously. I somehow defended that show all the way through season 3. But there is no way to defend the vomit encrusted flaming dumpster full of dog shit that was season 4. The finale was unspeakably bad. Awesome in the literal definition of the word. Like an ouroboros trainwreck perpetually crashing into itself for 40 minutes.

Man I was fine with season 3. I didn't think it was as good, but it never particularly bothered me. Every show has lower points, but hey season 4 will have magic so it'll be sick.

Nope that was wrong in every sense of the word. The first half was fine, but then it got progressively worse somehow after the midseason finale.

You're right there just is no way to defend that finale, especially the fight scene. Which is something so bad that I, a guy who does not make movies, was pretty sure I could do better then that. I MEAN TRADING TWO FISTS LIKE THAT IS NOT WHAT I WATCHED ALL THESE EPISODES TO BUILD UP TOO. UGHHHH.

I just completely lost interest somewhere around "The Climb".

Oh sweetie, I bet you never saw the finale of Falling Skies. The cringe...

Never watched the show, what went so wrong?

Everything, literally EVERYTHING. It was like a car accident and a train wreck had a deformed baby together. Yet I still watched it.

Yeah don't they have good episode discussions about Agents of Shield now?

I thought they became a Daredevil sub.

May have been that, I don't browse arrow but I recall seeing mentions in marvel-related subs. Either /r/shield or /r/marvelstudios since you said Daredevil.

haha, A disappointing EPISODE. MY FRIEND, SETTLE IN FOR A TALE OF SEASONS

NMS is directly responsible for me getting into Elite: Dangerous, and since NMS's release I've got more than a hundred hours E:D. So yeah, that'd be great!

[–]Operation_Phoenix 7ポイント8ポイント  (0子コメント)

No man's sky somehow got me into factorio, so that's nice too.

How is it? I'm interested but I've heard it's incredibly difficult to learn and get in to

copy/pasted from another thread I posted this in:

It doesn't have atmospheric landing (yet), but it does have moon-buggy landing on "dead" planets. They look incredible, though. Must more lifelike than how NMS handles it: https://imgur.com/Ekxmu9f. They also feature different gravity, different mineral resources, and the potential to find loot and information from wrecked ships and abandoned planetary stations and depots (NOTE: you need the Horizons expansion for all the planetary stuff)

The universe in E:D is a 1:1 recreation of the milky way, which means it has 400 billion star systems, complete with binary/trinary systems, gas giants, rogue planets, dead stars, and ringed planets where you can actually fly into the rings. Everything follows physics, too, so you can literally fly into the sun and everything orbits it's central star(s). All space stations and outposts also orbit their own planets in each system, so flying vast distances can feel like what some E:D players call "Euro Truck Simulator on steroids".

There are currently 29 different ships with still more being planned and introduced, and they all get added to the base game without the need to buy any DLC. Ships have different manufacturers, classes, and functions too: https://www.elitedangerous.com/en/features/shipyard

You can be a trader, a space pirate, an imperial guard, a mercenary, an explorer (there are plenty of systems that haven't been discovered), a salvager, a space trucker, a tourguide (planned in next update), or just a player ganker if that's your style. It has solo and multiplayer modes, and the multiplayer mode does actually work very well. The caveats would be that wherease NMS is a walking simulator, Elite: Dangerous is a spaceflight simulator. So, at the moment you can only romp around either in your spaceship or in an SRV on planetary surfaces. They have, since the beginning, meant to include atmospheric planetary landing, gas giant atmospheric flight, and first person mechanics including walking around stations and ship-to-ship boarding, so they're in the works as the game is being constantly expanded upon.

The game is being developed by Frontier, headed by David Braben, who created the original Elite back in 1984 and essentially invented the open-world 3D space sim, then went on to make a few very well-received sequels that included some of the features mentioned above, as well as helping create the Raspberry pi, so if there's a dev to be trusted to make a good space sim it would be him.

There's a steep learning curve initially to E:D if you decide to give it a try. Landing is the polar opposite of NMS; you need to request docking, manually fly through the "mail slot", find your landing pad, and do all the maneuvering yourself, but I find it personally to be a much more rewarding experience. Pissing off a faction can lead to you not being welcome in a multitude of systems, and some players can be real assholes (but if you know which systems to avoid you're mostly ok. Play solo and no problem).

I liked NMS, for what it's worth, even put in over 50 hours on PS4; but I'm a weirdo who was raised on space sims so it wore on me pretty quickly and I just slinked back to E:D to be a real space explorer.

Watch the developer diaries, which were used during kickstarter to market the game. Then ask yourself, where is that game?

The controls for mouse and keyboard are nigh impossible in my experience but I've been using a 360 controller and having no problems at all. It took a bit of getting used to but once you get a feel for it the controls are pretty satisfying.

There's a learning curve compared to No Man's Sky I suppose, but it is so good, so worth it. Exploration feels so much better when the universe is plausible and there is risk involved.

Eh... it's a little deeper than NMS, but not by much. No flora or fauna or much planet interaction at all, really.

It's not hard or difficult at all, but it is incredibly shallow, grindy, and poorly balanced, which makes a bad multiplayer game. The only reason the game has any content at all is that the community roleplays the content into the game, then pretends that's a feature and not a fundamental flaw. Also, the community's ability to do so is undercut by the ability to play solo whenever you want, but your impact in solo is 100% reflected in the multiplayer world. Meaning people can destroy your favored factions without your ability to interfere.

I just dont want mmo's. They always become griefer fests.

If it's worth anything I have only ever encountered another player when my friends decide to meet up and wing together. We just pick a common destination and meet there (imagine that! Amazing). I've never seen another commander out in the wild, though you will of course if you go to any of the community hot spots like the crashed alien ship or systems where community events are taking place.

You can play in solo. Only you and npc's. There is also something called private mode that are basically invite only servers. The biggest one is called mobius and is PvE only. Any PvP will get you kicked permanently.

E:D has a "solo" mode. You still participate in the economy, missions, etc. but don't have any interaction with other players.

You can switch between modes pretty easily, too, so you're not stuck in one or the other the whole game.

I have rural wireless internet and hate griefers so thats my concern.

I have 3 copies. I usually get one with every lot of carts i buy.

The best adaptation I've ever played was one I had on my iPhone 3 that allowed for ship enhancements and had a solid upgrade shop. This was before in-app purchases were common practice so you could legitimately play this game for free and enjoy every bit of it without spending a dime. I miss that copy, haven't been able to find another like it since. FTL fills that gap pretty well though, it might not be the same game but it has a similar feel.

Also, Beat Hazard on steam for anyone else looking for a good modern Asteroid game. Play it with music from The Devil Wears Prada, fucking insane.

I temember when asteroids came out. Was my favorite game aside from Berzerk.

Didn't /r/arrow ban all arrow content and become a Deadpool sub for a bit after the s4 finale? or was that the joke?

It was Daredevil. Also, only sort of a joke. I kinda miss the layout, it was hilarious.

So they were actually willing to admit their thing was ruined and laugh about it? There's a lesson there!

That's exactly what they did and definitely my reference. That shit was funny too, it's a shame the direction that show went in. What a slap in the face to the fans.

[–]Einsteins_coffee_mug 5ポイント6ポイント  (0子コメント)

I feel like that's where I am now as a NMS fan.

I like the game, though I'm upset with it, and I enjoy shit posts and circle jerks about it more than playing it lately.

Woo that was like stepping onto a salt planet. I didn't even think season 4 was that bad. Not my favorite but not a show ruining catastrophe they're making it out to be.

In a weird way, NMS has given us what we really want. A virtual experience of what Life and the Universe really is...and goddamn is it depressing.

Where are the space hookers then? None of the local fauna or other alien races were inclined to take my hard earned carbon.

I didn't need to pay 60 dollars to know that!

...but it does make it more impactful, I'll admit.

[–]some_internet_guy87 40ポイント41ポイント  (7子コメント)

Can I just say that it's extremely satisfying to finally see this sub CRUMBLE and accept the game's flaws? I still enjoy NMS just because it happens to tickle my gaming kinks, but the denial on here during and shortly after release was... disturbing.

Here's hoping for some heavy, cheap (free would be amazing??) DLC that fixes the game. What the game really needs is a LITTLE more direction/guidance, a LITTLE more inventory leeway (better stacking, separate inventory space for upgrades), more robust worlds/animals, and a deluge of premeditated content across the board. The procedural base is good, but it needs an overlay of hand-crafted content (characters, quests and story content, events, challenges, bosses) to be great.

A survival mode, ala Minecraft, is also an obvious leap that begs to be made. It would be cool to build your own habitat, collect and build your own plants, tame your own animals, etc. Hell, even Kingdom Hearts let you build your own gummi ship, so why can't we do it in NMS?

I mean no disrespect, but if the dlc to fix will cost anything at all, after this, well... there will be fire. Probably a lot of it.

I'd love the ability to capture animals and bring them back to a space zoo. More credits for them being larger and weirder.

My zoo was one of my favorite bits of MGSV.

This. In addition I'd like to able to populate planets with creatures like you could in spore. I'd love to setup a planet with nothing but angry predators for other players to stumble into.

Holy crap, I dunno why I didn't think of this. collecting animals in a travelling ark would be amazing. of course, they'd have to improve the animal AI and give them needs/habits for it to be truly impressive- building habitats would be the logical next step.

The implosion of /r/simcity was still much more satisfying. So many smug developers and EA hacks that got devoured. So much anger when people managed to get it to play offline and with bigger regions.

The shitposts will soothe our damaged hearts.

I've avoided this sub for a while, has any news or anything about updates been hinted at?

By just looking at Sean Murray's twitter alone I would guess not. He hasn't said anything in a month lol. That's when you know your team was a complete failure.

Fuck you! I'm still in denial!

Lesson here:

Don't buy into the fucking hype.

The hype was not what was wrong with NMS.

It certainly was a part of the problem.

*The hype was not all that was wrong with NMS.

Yeah, I hit acceptance a couple of days ago and decided to trade it in to get Doom for free. Best decision I ever made. Doom has 5 times the depth for a third of the price, the Snapmap is absolutely incredible and I've been making an RPG style map.

Probably more accurate that the people enjoying the game had to get away from the constant stream of bullshit.

eh... the number of people who enjoy the game is statistically negligible.

We are at a point were the number of active people in this subreddit are equal to the number of people still playing No Man's Sky. Interesting how many people still care for the game when so little still play it.

I've pretty much stopped playing. Doesn't mean I'm not interested in the game getting better.

I haven't played for weeks and I'm still here. I don't even know why.

Exact same. In fact, I found myself thinking... why am I even reading this thread?

I haven't loaded up NMS in a couple weeks and honestly don't really think about it anymore. I put in 71 hours and feel like I'm completely done with it unless they come out with a massive content update. Why then can't I unsubscribe from this subreddit?

Yay, I'm statistically negligible!

... wait, that's not a great thing to crow about, is it? Right... I'll just slink off now...

Eh, it's not really a bad thing either. The reality is 99.9% of our lives will be statistically negligible.

Me too... I mean I don't deny that a lot of people expected too much out of it and the developer over promised and under delivered. But I am still very much enjoying what I got. I wish there was more and I'm hopefull that in the future the game will be supported and more features added.

Its a Valkeen because they are the only ones who say Interloper! Still, KILL IT WITH FIRE!

I still genuinely believe that if this game was marketed better (read: honestly) and had a sensible indy price tag that reflected the content (let's say $20) it would have been a roaring success. Personally I was totally disappointed and felt like I'd been had after a few hours of gameplay. Went straight on eBay and I don't regret a thing.

It's not a case of 'buying into the hype' or holding the game to an impossible standard either. The game was just marketed falsely and it was aggressively overpriced. That's a surefire recipe for a pedestal fall.

GabeN was kind enough to hand me my $60 back. $20 is what I'm waiting for...probably during a Humble Bundle or next Steam Summer Sale.

Definitely! This game has some really cool aspects... even for 30 usd it would have blown my mind.

But honestly, their huge mistake was PR. Showing, implying and talking about cool things that didn't end up in the game, it really pissed me off.

If they presented the game exactly as it is now, I think people would have bought the game even at 60usd, considering there are not many space games on PS4... sure, creating less way hype and selling only to hardcore space exploration fanatics.

Honestly, I like the game for what it is, but you can't just avoid questions and give vague answers like Sean did in the interviews or show trailers with things that we know are not in the game at all.

dear lord that is one ugly Gek, though that's also one greedy Gek too, I mean $50 for content that should have been in the game in the first place for that amount they should just release a fucking sequel: No Man Sky 2: the real game we promised you No Lie Honest!

wait, HG said something about DLC these days? i'm a little bit out of NMS grid recently

He mentioned free dlcs before and then retracted, saying it'd be a little naive not to expect paid dlcs. Something along those lines.

They said they take back their comment on no paid DLC, so there is that.

No they didn't, people just wish more content

For a short moment I thought they'd actually released a Sandworm DLC. Now that would be ballsy as fuck.
