I'm fucking out and done checking every day for updates.

That'll show 'em!

Refunding will as well.

A little late for that, unless you recently purchased it.

Fuck these people downvoting you. The only thing they'll listen to is people taking their money back. Its the same thing you'd do if a wrong sized shirt was mailed to you.

You really think they don't listen and they don't know the game was not well received?

Hard to say. The community, reviewers, and so on are speaking extremely loudly, but the giant pile of cash they made is speaking loudly too.

Wow! So many players are online! <--- just proved how fucking douchey Sean is. They know full well that people are mad, they just think the ostrich approach will solve it.

Agkistro got it right.

(Money > Feedback)

This company has a lot of issues when trying to communicate, instead of sending stupid tweets.. they should have better people on communicating...

I'll assume you have a better, more effective suggestion?

No matter what they say... You and a lot of people won't be happy until there are actual improvements to the game on the features that we thought would be there. I am also sure someone at Sony has told HG to just put your head down and work on the game and don't say a word until you can show results. So unless you just want him to speak so you can criticize him, I really don't see what him talking is going to do. Me personally, I just want to know when we can expect the updates. But I don't care to read more of "we are working on..." I already know that.

You have a right to be upset but truthfully, I still feel bad for HG because this game is a labor of love for them. They might have been rushed to get the game out. We don't know the business behind the scenes stuff but there is one thing I do know is that there is no way that the guys at HG are happy that so many people are unhappy. Even with that and the mess I still enjoy the game.

there is no way that the guys at HG are happy

Yeah, even though Sean just personally made millions off this game, I am sure he is really unhappy. Poor Sean.

I highly doubt that. Sony has been around too long to think not talking to the community is a good idea. It's not as though refusing to engage keeps the conversation from happening. If Hello Games has nothing to say, their critics will simply say it for them- and they have been. Smart companies get out in front of bad press and spin it into an advantage if possible. They don't just sit there mute letting their most vocal critics control the conversation.

You do realize Sony is the company that put off updating basic security, on all of their websites and platforms, for years right?? They were cutting corners in such an important aspect of the business. what makes you think they wouldnt rush this game out?? Not to mention Sony is responsible for that awful new Ghost Busters movie...how could you trust them after that?

Just a little nit-pick. The branch of Sony in charge of games and the branch of Sony in charge of movie production are two entirely different beasts. They likely don't have any formal communication on a regular basis. You can think of them as two separate subsidiaries to a larger corporation.

I didn't say anything about trusting them. I just think they are better at PR than to make such a bush-league error as telling a dev team to clam up and ignore criticisms. The only way the silent treatment would be the best idea is HG really was scamming us, really did have no intentions on improving the game. In a case like that, any further communications would just hurt them even more and would eventually bleed back onto Sony themselves.

No Mans Sky Delusion Scoring System

  • Unwarranted sympathy for Hello Games and/or Sean <pass>

  • Somehow Sony's fault <pass>

  • Hello Games has been working sooo hard <fail>

  • They are a small team and/or passionate indie developer <pass>

  • Updates are coming and/or excited to see the new content <fail>

  • I must be the only one enjoying this game <fail>

Final score (3/6 - Moderate Delusion)

Really? I for one would LOVE Sean to at least give us a summary of the new features their working on. So far, since release, Sean has said nothing to us about the game, he knows people dislike the game and HG but instead of saying "we're sorry, here are some features we are planning" he goes "wow this is great, 2 people meet first day!" He's a scammer.

Well at least there's a lesson to be learned about not believing hype and that con artists in the video game industry somehow escape all consequences for some reason.

You're right. Had Sean come out early and say "I messed up, I promised things I couldn't deliver and go in over my head but we're working on things and we're going to keep adding features over the next year"

Instead he's silent, which makes me and others wonder, "maybe he was scamming us the whole time".

I was sympathetic but now I'm not. Come out from under your rock coward!

You know, I think he should stop the silence. But: I don't blame him. And I think it's unfair of you to call him a coward.

In the past year he's had to deal with the worst this community has to offer - including death threats against him and his friends/family. I'm honestly surprised he didn't go silent as soon as it happened.

Either way, if I was him I wouldn't wanna talk to anybody here either. I don't think he'll be making an appearance unless it's something big he has to say.

I don't think Sean's a bad guy, but I think the level of hostility he has received was absolutely preventable had he only communicated more openly and honestly with the community. He said things that weren't true, and while he might have believed that the game eventually would have those features, he chose to remain silent about their absence. That's dishonest, and that's why he's getting so much shit. That doesn't excuse crazies making death threats, but he's not a martyr; he's a passionate guy who chose to let falsehoods stand, and he collected lots of money partially because of those falsehoods.

Not all fools are bad, but they are still fools.

In the last year or six months before release, Sean knew if he admitted all of those things he said weren't going to be in the game, then they would sell a lot less copies. He made a decision to not saying anything, and make millions more in sales. He was scamming people this way: letting them think the things he said would be in the game were still in there.

He was probably advised by lawyers at some point around release to not say anything about the missing features.

It was deceptive. As the owner of HG, he personally became richer from this strategy of fooling people.

if he was legitimately scanning...class action lawsuit?

In class action lawsuits, doesn't it usually work out to where some douche lawyer gets like 95% of whatever damages there are and then the hundreds of thousands of plaintiffs end up splitting the remaining 5% ... to where it comes out to a check for 97 cents lol?!

Yes, we will never be fooled again by Fable, Fable 2, Fable 3, Black & White, Mad Max, Konami, Nintendo, SEGA, Sony, Microsoft....

Fool me once, shame on Sean. Fool me twice, shame on... Well.. fool me once, you can't get fooled again.. eh?

hey mad max was awesome.

It's the same with the whole entertainment industry. Both recent DC movies are similar BvS and Suicide Squad promised much more and turned out to be utter clusterfuck shitty movies. No one's gonna arrested for making a bad movie, and you can't get your ticket price back. Well maybe you can but yeah just making a comparison.

You sure as shit can't get your popcorn money back, and that's most of the profits.

You mean it doesn't cost them $6 to pop all my corns!?!?!

I don't feel like movies "promise" anything per-say. They show trailers, and teasers, but rarely does someone make specific claims about things that will happen in a movie and it turns out to not be there at all. At least as far as i'm aware.

It's entertainment. You can't make a class action lawsuit just because you weren't entertained. It falls within the bracket of art which doesn't come with guarantees. It's like you pay someone for a beautiful portrait and it comes out ugly. You'll never win that battle in court because beauty, just like entertainment, is subjective. But then again, if someone says they made a multiplayer game and then sells you a single player game, you would have grounds for winning lawsuit.

We're talking about false advertisement. Pure and simple. Video footage showcasing features that are not there. Confirmation from the developer of things that are missing ir not possible. It's really simple.

Well, at least you could tell those movies were shit by the trailers.

"We are working hard on a patch that will eliminate a bug that affects 0.1% of users. Thanks for supporting our game!"

Yeah it really sucks. I'm surprised by the comments here from people telling you to just get over it. Some people want to be able to enjoy the game!

its funny too, cuz you know they see this subreddit, probably every day.

This would be good:

If they don't send an outline of the current problems and the roadmap for this game in the future

and entirely something Sean can do.

The only thing you can do is tiny and maybe too big for some un-follow their twitter accounts. You can still check them just do not follow them.

I honestly am not trying to be mean, but have you thought about taking up a hobby rather than wasting your free time on updates on this game?

I don't know about OP but I do plenty with my time and occasionally I see /r/nomansskythegame pop up on my front page which reminds me to check if it's worth buying yet. It's disappointing that the answer is continuously "no".

[–]Pelagiad [

Is this not a hobby in itself? Gaming, or NMS at the least

Sometimes, when you get conned, you've got to just accept it and move on. There's no way in hell that they'll make enough changes to the game to bring it up to an acceptable standard - too much of it is flawed. Enjoy it for as long as you can and forget about it. Try not to get ripped off next time.

Oh look! This!

.....Again!

Sigh......

Feel free to post interesting threads about No Man's Sky gameplay if you think there's too much complaining on here.

Get it?

If someone addressed you that way, would you want to respond to them?

It's not exactly the opening bid, is it now.

If they paid me money for something and i didnt deliver, then yes, i would respond, no matter if thats something i would like to do or not.

PR has not really been one of their strong points. I am sure I will be feeling this same way in 4-5 months if nothing changes.

They just released a fucking update what are you people even complaining about?

What update? (real question)

Oh, are there any patch notes or anything for it? It seems like the community-based one are in the comments, but wondering if there's a more official/fleshed out one :)

[–]Vlaid 0

Gotta admit, I lol'd pretty hard when reading the title.

no, you will keep checking. Don't lie to yourself

Why?

Seriously, why should they? They don't owe you or any other customer/consumer shit. Buying a product entitles you to nothing except the use of that product.

Just because a handful of devs are responsive to "the community" doesn't mean everyone has to. And if you think that you, or even this subreddit as a whole, represent "the community" then you're deluded: you're shouting into an echo chamber, you are changing nothing.

Sean is a recluse when it comes to making his games. You've got to give small studios more time. I know I'm going to be downvoted for this.

Not downvoting you... just saying... he had no problem doing interviews and demonstrations where he willfully gave false information about the game. :/

You're required to make those because they were tied to an exclusive contract for Sony. He also disappeared afterward for months.

Yeah, if its starting to make you bitter probably best to give it a break for a while then come back after a feature update.

There's been a few updates here: http://www.no-mans-sky.com/news/

Way more information there than they could convey by tweeting.

I'd say that's good advice that I'm going to do myself. I've been meaning to play either Deus Ex, Inside, Rocket League's new update or the Death Star DLC for Battlefront. I'll return to NMS down the road and hopefully things will have been improved.

Otherwise, I can always trade it in. I know I'm picking up the new Mass Effect in the spring, so it would be nice to have a credit towards that.

good lord, youre checking every day? well thats one way to crack yourself up. sure its only been a month since the game was released, and there are only a few of them working on the game. maybe tone it down to once a week or something

look anyway, when there is finally an update, every news site on the planet will be talking about it, so dont worry, you will find out about it.

also, they actually have a contact email that you can write to them. i doubt they will even see this thread

[–]Miss_Sing_Chromosome 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

Have to agree. As much as I can see why they are refusing to say anything (after 4 years of saying too much) they actually need to do that opposite right now and just lay out a rough roadmap for what the future of the game is.

Having worked in development, you've always got a support roadmap for post-release. They would have some idea of what they are deciding to implement and when.

The likely scenario is that they even already have a few people working on content whilst the core of the team irons out bugs and implements hot fixes.

There is no way this will make everyone instantly happy, but it will certainly help the majority of people get over their disappointment. The last solid content changing information we were given is that they are looking into freighters and bases, which is cool and all, but is this being looking into alongside major gameplay loop alterations, or is the gameplay loop staying how it is for the foreseeable future and new content is being added in?

What matters now, as always, is what we do rather than what we say. We’re developers, and our focus is first on resolving any issues people have with the game as it is, then on future free updates which will improve, expand and build on the No Man’s Sky universe.

Eh there's not exactly much they could talk about. Hello games already made there defenses about why the game is the way it is, and the fans will attack anyone wanting answers.

I'm just waiting to see this content patch there making. If it's anything decent it might not get deleted.

"Hello games already made there defenses about why the game is the way it is"

No they haven't

Yeah I was like "when was this?" Because they've been awol for a month.

Zero communication from HG, not sure what medium they made their defences on !

Go to the nms website and look at the "what do you do in nms" header. That's what I'm talking about.

Like the person above you, go the nms website and refer to the "what do you do in nms" header. That's what I was talking about.

Go to the no mans sky website and look at the "what do you do in nms" header, that's what I was referring to. I'm not defending the game since that's what you all seem to think.

If they don't send an outline of the current problems and the roadmap for this game in the future

They did. Nothing has changed. The last point on the roadmap was a content update, so until you see that the same applies as what's on their site.

I wish they would, I want confirmation of something coming, something happening, I need that hook to keep me playing, I haven't played since the end of August and don't have any inclination to play it again, I need that damned hook, HG!!!

They are saying all they need to via their silence. This is a complete game. Yes, it's a shitty complete game, but Hello Games clearly doesn't view it as being so drastically different from their vision that an explanation is required. If they had some grand plan to make the game completely different and feature rich than it is now, they would have clarified that 1-2 days after release when everybody was first reeling with shock.

I was thinking of downvoting this. But I'm going to wait till it's #1 and people realize how desperate and stupid this sub has become.

inb4downvotes

Agreed. People act like their mother cut them off. They are patching the game is all that matters.

If they have given up they should just move on.

people realize how desperate and stupid this sub has become.

It's a sub about the game. The game was released, was widely considered very different to what was promised, and in the month since the developer hasn't engaged with the community once.

I can't see why it's desperate and stupid to want to see an update.

in the month since the developer hasn't engaged with the community once.

the developer hasn't engaged with the community once.

hasn't engaged with the community once.

the community once.

once.

[–]Mardoo 0

game is dead and shit, let's just move on guys.

Oh look it's this thread again..

glad I refunded a while back

Why do they have to say anything? They've said they're working on it, that it's all they do or are planning on doing. Why do you need constant reassurance?

Nobody does this after a launch. Nobody. Ever. Under any circumstance.

There's seriously something really mental about needing Hello Games to check in with you on a regular basis...

Totally false. Tons of developers give regular updates. Those that don't usually at least tweet about their product or retweet people talking about their games. HG and Sean have gone COMPLETELY SILENT which is extremely weird for a company with a new product on the market that they're supposedly working on updating and continuing to sell.

You... you made a Reddit account called Sean_Lied?

Dude. You have issues.

So... no real point in trying to talk sense then since clearly that concept's off the table....

Their comments about how they want to fix all the current problems before adding new content/features is a great cop-out. As long as there's something in the game that isn't working 100% correctly, they have a convenient excuse not to add anything to the game. And each time they release a patch, they can make sure there's still something left to fix, so they never have to add anything. They can just keep saying "Hey, guys, we've got some great stuff coming, as soon as we finish fixing these bugs!"

They have your money, they don't care.

I don't want updates, at this point I want a post mortem. The 'maybe this game won't be shit after a couple patches' ship has sailed. More interested in the story of what happened behind closed doors now.

I'm fucking out and done checking every day for updates

I'm pretty sure that voting with your wallet would deliver your message more reliably. And, no, magically getting a refund is not the only way to do that. You could : 1. never preorder anything again. I mean it. I'm sure we all know why now 2. blacklist Hello Games. By now, No Man's sky is a gigantic commercial success. It made buttloads of money. Possibly even low-tier triple A money. The only way to make sure that Hello Games learns their lesson is to not buy their next game. Of course, if their next game seems to not make any of the mistakes NMS made, feel free to ignore this suggestion (I mean, you're free to ignore it anyway) 3. This is really important- keep on bitching. While the results are subtle, flooding the internet with posts about how horrible Hello Games are is having an effect. Just keep going at it.

I mean, I guess you could stop checking for updates and buy their next product, but I'm pretty sure video game developers don't get mixed messages.

My opinion: they don't want to say anything (and in the interest of covering their own asses, shouldn't) because anything could really fuck them.

They've got thousands of angry gamers ready to nip at their heels, the last thing they need is to say something that admitts their fault even a little, and then they have a lawyer or two scouting out interest in a class-action.

hello games hired a Q&A team for people with problems. that means that hello games themselves are BUSY WORKING ON UPDATES. now please quit whining, this subreddit should stay positive instead of yelling at HG. go ask the Q&A team all your questions and let hello games work. this game has lots of complicated glitches they need to fix like random FPS drops and stuff.

hello games need to hired dev and not Q&A

each update not make the game better HG work really slow

I personally have moved on. check Here maybe you will certainly find some happiness.

I think they are so depressed... I'm sad about the hate that this game got... I can't even imagine how they feel about all of this hate

Sad? Depressed? How much money did they get thanks to NMS? 15 millions? More?

I wouldn't feel so sad for them.
