Pogba & Rooney discussion (self.reddevils)

What is your opinion on Pogba's start to his United career? In my opinion, he started very good against Soton and gradually lowered his performances since. He seems a bit lost on the field, he drags the ball for too long, his long passes aren't accurate, he doesn't always play the right short pass and he doesn't open up for through balls to come to him. I know it's early days and his game will improve, but it's safe to say that he had a rocky start to his second United stint.

In regard to Rooney,i think that the one thing the team lacked the most today was his leadership. He may play bad at times, but his leadership never fails. Without him, there is no clear leader of this team and for that, i think that he will be starting most of the games in this season particularly.Plus, he is playing some nice football for most of the times in the games so far.What do you think?

I read an article about Pogba that said he can often do too much or over complicate things when he feels he is the main man. This seems to be the case here

Pogba:

What we're seeing was always going to happen, midfielders need time to settle, and while he does that, everyone will blame him for not living up to his price tag. Sure he looked good against Southampton, but look at the league table. On current form they're easily the worst team we've faced so far in the season.

He's been asked to play in double pivot for the first 4 games (something he's not done too often before), and now he was asked to play in another different system tonight, playing the full 90 every time. It's not easy, and he'll take time.

After watching the match today I felt that Pogba found himself with the ball too often. At Juventus he was surrounded by an elite midfield that allowed him to play comfortably off the ball. Today he had no one to drop deep in attack and allow him to push forward. That is where Rooney and Pogba excel together. Rooney providing the link creates space for Pogba and Ibra up top. The weaknesses of Mata were exploited today. He could not drift into the middle of the pitch effectively, create space on the outside, and physically defend the opposition. I think Mou m's lineup will be drastically different come Sunday.

It's absolutely a no brainer. There hasn't been one attacking player playing better than Rooney this season, so he keeps playing.

Pogba needs a break, but more importantly, it's going to take time to see the best of Pogba. When Ronaldo went to Real, it took them a year or two to start seeing him really shine, same with Bale.

There hasn't been one attacking player that has gotten even half as much play time as Rooney / Ibra, so that argument is inherently flawed.

Zlatan wasn't good that game either. But no one wanted to talk about it. In fact i don't even think he was good all round against City. After his goal (into an open net), he went back to taking bad touches and blazing everything over the bar.

Cause not everyone assumes whoever scored played well.

He didn't actually perform well in 2 of the 4 games. Debatable 3. I don't think that makes him "easily" better than anyone. He was definitely worse than Rooney in the game you're referring to. At least Rooney actually did something other than giving the ball right back to hull.
