I just don't understand the pressing bit. Rashford kept urging our midfielders up the pitch but they were all sitting back. What did Jose tell them to do?

Atleast today with the comparatively faster players in the midfield I thought we would press better, but nobody pressed at all. Really hope that teams don't use this against us too much by just passing it around the back

Also the fact we played a 3 man midfield and also have 2 extremely physical CB's, at least one of Pogba or Herrera could afford to press with Rashford and either winger, both fullbacks were quite defensive as well, I don't understand it.

Was the same against City. For their first goal Mikhi was slowly moving towards zabaleta, looked like he was going to rush him, then glance back at mourinho and held off. The crowd were screaming at him to close him down. I dunno but Mourinho must not want us pressing against teams who like to play from the back

I'm guessing to park and counter. Rashford could've been wanting to pressure the opposition to lose the ball while the other midfielders decided to sit back and let the opposition's play break down by itself before hitting them on the break.

These are not things you decide as a player during the game. These are things that are agreed by the manager, and discussed prior to the game, tweaked by orders from the manager on the sideline. It's called communication. It was really weird.

We had some games last season where we did an excellent job pressing. Was one of the few bright spots of our play, so it shouldn't be that hard... Makes me think Mou said to sit back, but then what the heck was Rashford doing?

This is a question I keep asking. First half of City game, everyone blames Mhki for not pressing Kolarov in that first goal. The whole team wasn't pressing, why would Mhki be? We obviously started pressing in the second half and got results. But like you said, it was obvious. It wasn't just one individual pressing. The whole team did. So today, I was confounded seeing Rashford that far up and a chasm betwee him and the rest of the team. Rather odd. Still early days tho

They have to show some football intelligence during the game though. They might of been told not to press in general however it was clear as day Mkhi should've pressed in that situation.

[–]black_squireMartial 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

That's not something you do with pressing. Pressing is either as a team or not at all. If only 1 player presses it messes up the structure of the team and allows the opponent to break down your defenses much easier. The idea of pressing is to force a mistake, If only one player presses, that's a 1v1 that can easily be handled and now that player is out of the picture completely

[–]Allard1994Good one Jose, good one.[S] 1

Yeah I didn't get it either. All but Rashford were on our half. I thought 'Playing Feyenoord, we must be pressing at least up to the final third, but nope. Really dissapointed.

The space between Rashford and the rest of the team was absolutely shocking at times.

I'll start being sad if we dont win against Watford on Sunday. It always sucks to lose but in the grand scheme of things, this loss doesnt bug me as much. The performance was shit but I am hoping its just the lads not being so motivated for Europa and that they will put in a good shift Sunday.

You know how much the lads get paid? Not being motivated is not an excuse.

Every time they put that badge on they should be motivated, otherwise they should be out. It's the manager's responsibility to make sure of that.

Yeah, but I really dont know what else to blame the loss on. We have the better players, the better manager. Just remaining hopeful because we cannot keep putting up performances like that.

Since the Weekend I'm looking forward to this Game and then you get a Performance like this. Cant even imagine what the travelling Away-Fans must feel/think.

I know that I'd be guted.

Mate I'm depressed don't worry, you're speaking truth friend.

[–]PM_ME_UR_HORNY_PICS 4ポイント5ポイント  (0子コメント)

Naa mate, I'm very sad. I drove to work watching this game. Got to work and watched this game throughout. Could have been fired today but I wouldn't miss a United game. I even rarely comment here, but gotta take the sadness somehow. I feel you. It hurts more coming from a derby loss. Looking forward to Sunday

I'm really dissapointed.

This shitpost hasn't been deleted by the mods yet.

I'm with you on this. Poor today but I'm not worried, the team will click soon

You've either got to press which makes it difficult for the opposition to play passes but if they manage it then they're in great space. Or keep your structure and make it easy to play passes but as you're not getting strung about then players don't receive the ball in good space. Neither style is inherently better but United did neither.

It's all part of the mental plan. Mess up on purpose the first few months of the season, and then start fucking with the opponents when things really matter.

Source: My optimism.

[–]black_squireMartial 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

To be honest, it's still early days. Several of the players that played today haven't played a minute this season. Lot's of rust to get rid of and still adapting to the new manager. More to come I hope. Disappointed as well, but it happens

I'm gutted mate. Don't care if Mourinho see's Europa as a distraction its still a competition and we should be doing our best to win it. That team was good enough to win on paper tonight and they didn't look arsed. I'm sorry but when you're on £100,000 a week you can find a way to motivate yourself for 90 minutes. Feel sorry for the fans that travelled.

[–]RogerFedererFTWValdes(and Falcao) 0

Meh. I am dissapointed too, but not too arsed about it tbh. It's just one loss vs a tough team. We will certainly go to the knockout stages, and even if we don't at some point we will concentrate on the league anyway. The loss is insignificant. The performance wasn't good, but we were trying things and didn't play with 100% effort in the 1st half, probably to avoid injuries due to their tough fouls.

Don't worry mate we are all disappointed after SAF left.. patience Mourinho needs some more time. He knows how to win and Woody will provide him the money to make us top team once again!

It's not the money I'm worried about. The tactics looked off.

Mourinho said it clearly that he doesn't give a damn about Europa, nonetheless we were shit the last 2 games but we know what Mourinho is capable of. It's a completely new philosophy, 2 of our best players last season are out of form (Martial,Smalling) also Pogba is a top class player he just needs time. Since we lost to City everybody seems terrified the truth is though that City has more experienced players than us.

Mourinho did not say he didn't give a damn about Europa. He said it's not the competition we want to be in, but we aim to win this one since we're in it.

I'm tired of this fucking mentality that it's ok because it's "just the UEFA League." Fuck that, Mourinho and the lads get paid a fuck load of money to perform. People spend buckets of money to travel and support the team. EVERY FUCKING GAME MATTERS to the fans, every time you put that badge on you better be giving 100%.

Today 9 outfield players sat back and 1 thought they were supposed to press. That means there was a lack of communication and a failure in prepping the players. The tactics were off.

[–]Allard1994Good one Jose, good one.[S] 1

Let's hope so mate.

Me too. Southampton are beating Sparta Prague 2-0 and it's only half-time.

Man City demolished Mönchengladbach.

Arsenal got a valuable away goal and a point against PSG.

Leicester demolished Club Brugge...

At least Tottenham lost...
