Let me preface my rant by saying that I genuinely love this community. ESS devolved into memes and shitposts but this sub has been an outspoken, well-run, intelligent group of like-minded individuals from diverse backgrounds.
That being said:
We need to get our asses in gear.
Much of the purpose of this sub was to combat the tide of shit that Donald Trump supporters are inflicting upon the Internet and we are failing. Much of the content has been about blatant violations of site rules, and the mods unbridled apathy, but I haven't actually seen a plan to combat that behavior.
I don't have an answer, I'm sorry, but we're losing this fight and we're losing this site. These alt-right goons aren't going to go away unless the mods make this an unwelcome place for them. Push them out, let them go to Voat, but I can't believe Conde Nast is prepared to watch this site become blacklisted by advertisers, and promoters who drive traffic. Think about all of the AMAs we aren't getting. You think real-life Redditors like Anna Kendrick, Milana Vayntrub (u/mlnt) or others want to be associated with a site becoming notorious for racism, misogyny, and anti-Semitism? What about advertisers? This silence has a longstanding impact on the site.
How do we force their hand? I have ideas but I think the forum is most effective because you guys and girls have shown time and again, that you are some smart, crafty folks. Whatever I have, you probably have better.
I was not a fan of r/SandersForPresident but I gotta give them a massive amount of credit, that was a well run subreddit with a dedicated community who was willing to engage in real world work to support their candidate. Why aren't we? Voter registration drives, donation drives, phone banking drives, etc. Look I know everyone here isn't a Clinton supporter, but guys it is time to face facts. It's Clinton or Trump. This is a binary choice and every vote counts. We are in a unique position to have a real impact on stopping Donald Trump from taking office. This subreddit links a huge number of people who all want to work for the same cause: stopping Donald Trump.
Let's start doing something about it.
