The Sansaire name comes from the French words “sans” – without – and “aire” – air, symbolizing how the Sansaire immersion circulator perfectly cooks food without ever needing to make contact with air. The name also conjures the effortless elegance and simplicity that the Sansaire adds to your life.
Delta or ∆ is commonly used in math and science to signify change, which feels appropriate for a product that has evolved so much and also has the power to make a big impact on the lifestyle of home cooks.
Lukas cofounded Sansaire in 2012 out of a desire to bring exceptional, new cooking techniques to regular cooks. His passion is bringing design and new technologies to the market, centered on scientific insights. He is the CTO of Sansaire.
Prior to Sansaire, Lukas pursued a Ph.D. in theoretical physics at the University of Washington. He was a software project manager for several multi-university collaborations pursuing quantum computation architectures.
Lukas has been an integral part of every product launch at Sansaire, from the original Sansaire sous vide device launched on Kickstarter to the Searing Kit and Steak Aging Sauce. He is particularly proud of how design plays a central role in the company.
Lukas is a mentor for high school and college students interested in programming, industrial design, and entrepreneurship. He participated in the Modeling Competition in Mathematics (MCM) an international competition in problem solving while in undergrad and took first prize in 2007.
Lukas earned an undergraduate degree in mathematics and physics at the University of Washington and a Master’s degree in physics from the University of Washington. He stopped pursuing his Ph.D. after Sansaire successfully launched.
Valerie Trask is a Co-Founder and the Chief Operating Officer at Sansaire. With a diverse background on both the ground floor of startups and as a management consultant for Fortune 100 companies, she's been involved in businesses ranging from physical products to apps to digital education to video games.
She also helps bring young entrepreneurs’ ideas into functional ventures by volunteering as a guest speaker, mentor, and business plan competition judge/panelist at the University of Washington Foster School of Business, Washington Business Week, and at local high schools. Valerie holds an MBA from Seattle University, a Coaching Certificate from Columbia University, and undergraduate degrees in Communications and Comparative History of Ideas from University of Washington. She has traveled to all seven continents and will close out any karaoke bar – although this speaks more to her tenacity than her singing ability.
Johnna joined Sansaire as CEO earlier this year. Prior to Sansaire, she led teams spanning broad areas of management at Microsoft, Gillette and Outerwall (Redbox, Coinstar brands). Her roles included Vice President and Director level positions in Supply Chain, International Retail Business Development, Finance, Sales & Marketing.
Johnna is passionate about creating great consumer experiences with innovative technology hardware. In her career she played significant roles in various capacities on many product launches such as the original Xbox, Windows XP, Window 8, Duracell Ultra, Redbox in Canada, and now Sansaire Delta.
Johnna is a longtime volunteer and Executive Committee member for BPeace, an NGO that mentors and supports women’s business development in Afghanistan, Africa, and Central America. She twice received BPeace’s Volunteer Excellence Recognition Award. In her free time, she enjoys cycling, hiking, and traveling. She is also a member of Alliance of Angels, one of the largest and most active angel investment groups in the Pacific Northwest.
Johnna received a Bachelors and Master’s Degree in Industrial Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech), and an MBA from Auburn University.
Risks and challenges
After successfully delivering the original Sansaire device to over 4000 backers in 2014 we've gained enormous experience. We've been working with top manufacturing experts, seasoned developers, and industrial designers to ensure the Sansaire Delta device is beautiful and works seamlessly. With any new device launch there still could be unpredictable issues that could cause minor scheduling delays in the manufacturing and logistics process.
Over the past 3 years we’ve vetted our manufacturing and logistics partners, weeded out the ones who weren’t performing to our standards, and believe we have an amazing network of experts, suppliers and manufacturing partners to bring Sansaire Delta to our Kickstarter backers.

Yes, models will be available in 110V and 220/240V. Sansaire Delta will work across most of the globe and will ship based on voltage in market.

No, the power cord is not detachable. It cord is thinner and more compact than Sansaire 1.0, and is located at the bottom of the control panel.

Bags made of polyethylene and polypropylene that are labeled BPA-free are perfectly safe for sous vide cooking. Polyethylene and polypropylene have been used in laboratory settings for decades, and if they leached any chemicals, those chemicals would have thrown off the results of sensitive experiments.
Always avoid bags containing polyvinyl chloride (PVCs) or those not labeled as BPA-free. Most name-brand zip-top bags, as well as the bags sold for vacuum sealing, will list their ingredients on the box.

The app cannot be used for remotely controlling the original Sansaire, but the app CAN be used for looking up recipes and times/temps of your favorite foods.
