Manchester United Under-18s scored five for the third successive game as West Brom were beaten 5-3 in a thriller at the Aon Training Complex on Saturday.
The Baggies' senior team may have won by the same scoreline at Old Trafford in a famous match in 1978 but it was Kieran McKenna's youngsters who outscored Albion on this occasion.
Evan Pierce's early opener was swiftly levelled by a fine Indy Boonen effort and Angel Gomes headed home a Tahith Chong centre for 2-1. A deflected drive by George Tanner extended the lead before the break but West Brom hit back through Rekeem Harper and Rayhaan Tulloch to make it 3-3.
Undeterred, United edged back in front courtesy of Chong's first goal for the club, capitalising on some excellent work by Boonen, and Aidan Barlow converted a late penalty, after being fouled, to wrap things up.
The superb victory follows 5-1 wins against Everton and Middlesbrough to put the Reds in good heart ahead of the Manchester mini-derby on Saturday against high-flying City.
