Just me that thought Pogba didn't play too badly today? (self.reddevils)

Yes, he wasn't amazing but he was quite solid apart from a few little mistakes. What do you guys think?

I think he should have passed the ball a lot more than he did instead of trying to take everyone on.

This was my main issue with his play today. I don't want to say he was terrible, necessarily; Lingard and Mkhitaryan both took that title...but Pogba did often try to do too much. There were plenty of occasions where he dribbled through a player or two, only to lose the ball when trying to dribble past a third or forth when he had options to pass. He obviously has the desire and passion to win, which sometimes makes big players try to shoulder too much in these big matches. He was also pretty poor off the ball, often out of position.

He was better than a lot of players for us today, but he always gonna be by far the most scrutinised because of his price tag

He needs to up his playmaking, long passing and shooting consistency if he has to justify this price tag.

But he has insane ball retention and carrying ability.

Its a similar situation with Martial. Unless he ups his long range shooting and playmaking/crossing - which would significantly up his goals + assists - he won't justify the price tag.

He played well and broke the trap offensively for us but his defense was found a bit lacking today. He needs to work on that and I'm sure he will.

At the start of the second half he really perked up when we brought Herrera on and I thought he would win us the game. Then Fernando shut him down a bit. Overall not a terrible performance but we should expect better. He's still being a little stitched up playing in a 2 man midfield against City.

He was okay at times but didn't play anywhere near his highest level, which you'd want him to reach in a game like this. Overall playing just okay is nowhere near good enough when you have this much expectation on you. 6/10 performance at best and that's probably being generous.

He's getting targeted because of his price but honestly I'd be running with the ball through the middle if my passing options on both wings are losing the ball every damn time for the first 30 minutes !!

I'm glad someone else feels that way too. He did fine in my opinion. Had some good runs with he ball. Picked some good passes. Obviously our midfield as a whole was overrun in the first half but after it was evened up I thought he did well. I was surprised to see all the negativity regarding his play.

He was better when we went to a 3 man midfield, that was when he played at his best at Juve too when he has 2 other mids and bombs forwards, he had flashes of brilliance with 3 or 4 runs and held the ball well in the 2nd half

He was constantly out of position. He was fine when he was on the ball but he didn't give Fellaini any support in the centre of the park.

He was certainly not bad today but i felt like at times his dribbling really slowed down the game. Maybe he was instructed to play more defensive today but i'd really like to see him get more involved in attacks and use that powerful shot of his more often.

The problem is exactly the same as in the Euros. Our top 4 players pressed too high, and the other 6 sat too low. This

  1. Left a big hole in midfield
  2. Put Paul in the region of the pitch where he has the least effect.

By the time we switched to a 4-3-3, Paul was already knackered

Thought he held onto the ball well and several times evaded 3 or 4 challenges to emerge in space. He was just unfit and then lacked the stamina to power on and create something, also lacked the stamina to get back and help that defence when City countered.

All things considered I thought he played well and kept on trying to dig deep, given his lack of pre-season.

He needs more pace and playmaking quality around him because he is short on both. But he is amazing at evading pressure and carrying the ball forward. He can be a part of any dominant midfield 3 in world football right now.

I think he's pacey enough for a CM and his long stride takes him away from other players, even if he isn't 'speedy'. He's also really creative, so many times we see him draw in 3 or 4 players, spin free and all of a sudden he's created a 3 vs 3 scenario and he's running at the defence. I just think he's a little unfit right now and certainly wasn't helped by Mhiki and Lingard offering nothing in the first half and him being gassed in the second half.

It's not that he played terribly, it's that he was anonymous. We didn't see enough of him. He didn't grab the game by scuff of the neck like De Bruyne did. When he did get the ball, yes he made good runs and held city up well, but even then his decision making was often questionable.

Pogba played well. It was the other shit holes who weren't attacking the ball and giving away possession in dangerous areas. Like that first goal with Blind. Blind did not attack the ball. He was just standing there waiting for it to come to him. Jesse Lingard, Rooney and their inability to control the ball and other players being caught out of position and shit.

They're not better than watching the game. Pogba was really poor, which Juve fans pointed out is pretty typical of him in big games
