Hello. I’d like to point your attention to a developing case in Buffalo, NY that NEEDS attention and support. A twenty-eight year old man, William C. Sager Jr., was beaten severely by a bar owner and two off-duty cops who were working security in the bar (which in NY state is illegal, for a police office to work on or off-duty inside a bar’s premises). They beat him so severely that he has severe brain damage and is not expected to recover, if he even survives at all. The man’s friend called 911 and reported that the manager and two off-duty cops were threatening his friend and he needed help immediately. One of the off-duty cops handcuffed him after they collectively beat him mercilessly and while he was unconscious, threw his body down a flight of stairs, then dragged him into the street to leave for dead. When the man’s friend tried to intervene and come to the unconscious man’s aid (who was handcuffed alone on the public street outside the bar, unconscious and bleeding from the mouth, nose and ears) one of the off-duty cops arrested him for “trespassing.” The manager and cops then took the surveillance tapes and threw them in a trash bin next door. As the 911 calls poured in, more police came, and they found the tapes. The manager was arrested and the cops were, of course, placed on paid leave. The FBI is investigating. The local media is now downplaying the off-duty cops’ roles in the savage beating. This needs to be exposed.

Witness Says ‘No Argument’ Preceded Beating of Guardsman at Molly’s Bar

No angry words or bar fight preceded the assault on William C. Sager Jr. a week ago Sunday, a witness told The Buffalo News on Sunday.

Sager and a friend went to Molly’s Pub in University Heights after attending a stag party for another friend. Just before 2 a.m., according to the witness, the bar manager, Jeffrey J. Basil, pushed the 28-year-old Air National Guardsman down a flight of stairs leading up from the bar’s ground-floor entrance at 3199 Main St.

Last Images From Surveillance Video in Molly’s are of Manager, Off-Duty Officer

The last images on the surveillance video from inside Molly’s Pub in the early morning of May 11 show the bar manager and an off-duty Buffalo police officer approaching the office where the surveillance system’s hardware is located.

Shortly after, there are no more images.

wonder what c garr kime and the brothers and sisters of hers think of those pig heros now?

  • Swapster_com

Why weren’t the two off-duty officers not arrested? Are there immunity laws that prevent their arrest in a timely manner here?

  • Common Sense

Apparently no one was “beaten” but rather a single push down a flight of 9 steps. Neither off-duty cop assaulted Sager, only Basil with the shove. Unless testimony comes in other, Basil will eat it.

It seems that only Eloff, who may or may not have know about the final destination of the tape, is on the hook. Seems the images were recovered and are being reviewed. Maybe Basil will bring Eloff along. Both cops are currently suspended without pay.

  • greenguy

It’s amazing how the media is always downplaying officer involvement – almost like they are afraid of the police or something….I will be watching to see what the FBI investigation report says.

Still irritated that they go on PAID leave – I’ve been suspending from jobs before and they were NEVER PAID!

  • greenguy

Yes, it’s nearly always the case the officers, on or off duty, are placed on leave (with pay) for a month while an investigation happens. It’s almost always the case (it IS always the case in Las Vegas, NV) that the cops are never convicted of any crime and either placed back on duty or given something like an early retirement – point being, they get off with no consequences. That’s why movements like this are growing in strength.

Isn’t Buffalo, NY Davy V’s beat?

  • beware mouse

Typical.. Violate the law and get rid of the recorded evidence.. Seems to me someone would have made certain it was found if they recovered it… Otherwise it would have been set fire to and or the trash never looked at… So someone made sure it still survived.. Good job unknown person. Thank you for your effort to preserve justice.. The officers involved will be dealt with as by having done this any testimony they have given in court can and will be questioned for evidence tampering.. To bad for that as there may have been a few arrests that should remain behind bars.. But when your a criminal all things become in question

  • beware mouse

??,, where did you find that care to share?

  • beware mouse

No they have no immunity on or off duty that is a myth.. Once they break their oath of office they can be charged. Even a judge

  • beware mouse

To bad the evidence locker for the investigation is so close to the document shreder

  • beware mouse

FBI???,or IA??? FBI I would think would make arrests quick but I doubt it will make it to that level and stick.. The FBI has been doing lot of prosecutions latly trying to save façe

  • t

We can do this….we are above the law

  • t

BM: You finally got one right. Congratulations. Bet your streak won’t last. Let me kept reading…..

  • t

    BM: Yep….back to stupid.

  • beware mouse

great you make a easy target then keep thinking that.. it is the brainfart of the century

  • Shawn

As a matter of law, yes. As a matter of real life handling of criminal cops, the odds are stacked against a cop ever facing the music.
First, he and his buddies have immediate control over any evidence. And a back scratching mentality, least they be on the wrong side of an investigation. Team Blue looks after its own.
Then you have a system motivated to declare their man, who they can be held responsible for, did nothing wrong. That will make for a critical investigation. /sarcasm.
Hell, that was their reaction in the Dorner hunt screw ups.

There was a recent article about a cop who did a hit and run. DA tried to plea bargain it down to nothing more than jay walking. Judge basically told him no, he had more than sufficient evidence and to go do his Damon job. I don’t believe for a second that prosecutors are eager to piss cops off by nailing another cop.

  • ThirtyOneBravo

    Google it.

  • beware mouse

Thank you.. I am aware of that.. And you have highlighted why we are here and making calls. A badge is not I can do what I want licence it carries a resposbilty with it and the trust of the public we make a diffence when we let them know that.. Good comment thank you again

  • fozzy

Just like with most stories on this site, you need to do your own internet search to find out what most likely happened. Numerous news organizations are reporting that multiple witnesses say it was an unprovoked single push down the stairs from Basil. Not either of the police. Eloff is not looking good because he seems to have had some involvement in the surveillance tapes going missing. He’s also pleading the 5th (but you guys should support that on this site, right?) Both cops are suspended without pay.
My guess is that the cops get fired for drinking after their shift was over and getting involved with a police matter after they had been drinking. That info is from a news site reporting from Buffalo. Eloff might face jail time or they might cut him a deal to flip on Basil.
I’m shocked people on this site aren’t in an uproar that the two officers were suspended without pay before the investigation is over. After all, it’s innocent until proven guilty, right? Or do police officers not get the same benefit of constitutional rights?

  • t

This is my imposter…also known as you.

  • beware mouse

Awesome comment and good insight.. But selective thought concerning the suspension .. A person would sit in jail not at home and not with pay. They will not earn Any money at all they will face outrageous bail And losing their home our apt due to the loss of income and possible failed to pay the mortgage… So in comparison of the losses I can’t see what Justice has been Served until a regular person would receive the same consideration.. But it is a vary good comment and yes we are working on justice for all not just them

  • beware mouse

Concerning the evidence? Well the is obstruction… And a habit of destroying vids is a great deal of what this site is about. To hear yet another attempt has been made only fuels contempt.. But perhaps that is unfair and due to historic practice

  • fozzy

It was reported on Buffalo news sites that both of these officers are suspended without pay. Neither are suspects in the battery and numerous witnesses state they were not involved in that part. One officer appears to have had some involvement in the videos disappearing. But unless someone directly involved comes forward and tells on the officer then it appears there’s no evidence. All they have is pictures showing the officer walking towards the room with video and then nothing after that. This site also clearly advocates never talking to the police so everyone should be hoping nobody comes forward to testify against the officer, right?
So basically both officers are suspended without pay, not able to earn any money and not a ton of evidence either committed any crime. Sounds like they are being treated just like a normal person would be. Except I would bet a normal person wouldn’t be suspended from their job if they weren’t arrested, weren’t a suspect, and there wasn’t much evidence against them.

  • beware mouse

i think it was reported above the details that has been left out of the official press release by the police. maybe we should look at additional evidence such as the omission of the tape and what is on the tape the police tried to hide then maybe things come into better perspective. the liberty of the officers remain in tact and can only be concidered as being favored. anyone else in the same circumstance and trying to remove the evidence of the facts would remain behind bars. and you believe that anyone else in circumstances should remain free as well until proven guilty then.. if so we are then in agreement

  • beware mouse

seems tampering with evidence is a real matter for some… so there is hope for this to remove out of control police officers after all… it can not be tolerated and it seems it wont be

  • Shawn

But t will ignore this and pretend cops simply have bad luck with recorders. Even their own IA was in on covering for the cops.
What real chance do we have of accountability when a department is allowed to investigate their own. Their own responsibility, their own people, their friends. And of course all cops like back scratching. And the worst part is, the cops know they can count on their buddies.

  • beware mouse

That is why we are here.. The pretending is over !!!!! He can pretend all he wishes to he and others here have been own again and again. It seems the FBI has taken notice and sending the message NOMORE

  • fozzy

I don’t believe that you should remain free until proven guilty. I believe that if there is enough probably cause to think someone committed a crime, then they should be arrested. Then they can make bail(or not depending on the crime) and remain free until proven guilty. That is the only incentive someone has to actually show up for the trial. Obviously bail should vary depending on the evidence and severity of the crime. But yes, if there is enough PC that a police officer committed a crime, then they should be arrested too and go through the process like everyone else.
The point I was trying to make is that this site likes to post stories about how people are “kidnapped and caged” without being proven guilty of any crime. But they advocate doing just that to any police officer that even the slightest allegation is brought against. They seem to forget that police officers are citizens too and have rights just like anyone else. You can’t claim to be an advocate for equality but leave out certain professions.

  • beware mouse

You have made some vary thoughtful points but I think the lost of everything you own after you have been found not guilty due to not working and heavy bail is too much for anyone to withstand.. Once more to wait up to a year for the decision and the decision being fixed against you is also unexceptable… In all to many cases where people are held with a high bond there is not even a victim and therefore the arrest is illegal as well as the charges,. In this case the police are free not jailed and there is a victim. And charges… They are a flight risk the same as anymne else… So the comparison needs to be thought threw better… I think we have a prison happy country and the people are not demanding it.. The power hungry are.. It needs to be fixed before being a police officer becomes to dangerous for anyone and nothing but something to fear… That is what the site is about.. To bring some balence back into the system …. Not just cop bashing… We are winning the battle here if you read the other posts you will see each has elements to at the vary least question and the collective force of people has made a change.. Or at the vary least made the police think before they use excessive force

Actually he was beaten, by Basil and at least one of the cops per witness testimony. The medical examiner along with witnesses determined he was already unconscious when pushed down the stairs as he had no injury’s concurrent with trying to break his fall or brace himself. Eloff is already under investigation for an incident that occurred on St.Patrick’s days where he was video taped beating a woman outside a bar then tried to assault and illegally confiscate the phone of the girl who videotaped him. http://wivb.com/2014/05/02/woman-claims-police-stopped-video-by-knocking-phone-from-her-hand/

The buffalo Polices brutality and culture of lawlessness has become such an issue the FBI had to step in investigate and announce they have a problem: http://buffalo.twcnews.com/content/news/742272/fbi-officials–buffalo-police-department-needs-a–culture-change-/

  • fozzy

I’ve been reading this site for several years now. I never post because the comments generally turn into childish name calling between the anti cop and pro cop crowds. Plus a lot of the stories posted by people are so slanted and biased against the police that they completely leave out much of the actual reported facts and just make assumptions. Those things take away from the purpose of this site and are the reason why this place will never be considered as anything more than a place for the anti cop crowd to post extreme ideas.

  • beware mouse

Well thank you for again joining the conversation. The only ones speaking against us are those. Losing the battle. It would be a comfort that you share your insight as the death rattle of hypocrites sounds off in the background. This site now has half a million readers a month 4 times larger the sports illustrated and still growing.. We are winning and it is expected to hear from the losers as they realize that the Alarmist extremist point of view no longer will be tollerated

Robert Eloff worked for Baker Victory Services with children and parents and he was a wonderful mellow guy and I worked with him for a few years with my son and he was the best Caseworker I had for my son….this is out of character for him. He desperately wanted to be a Police Officer, so something went terribly wrong for him in the Police Force. I know you have to fit in and be “one of them” to hold your job and position to fit in. I feel so bad for all parties…This should not have happened. Justice needs to prevail for all Police Officers guilty of their actions and consequences needs to be served and to Uphold Our Justice System and to regain the confidence of our community in the Justice System. Let their be consistency and when a crime is committed Justice must Prevail even if a Police Officer is involved. We must be consistent and Uphold the Law in all cases no matter what the Title of the Individual involved. Time Out in Jail and rethink what took place. Justice Must Prevail and Police Officers need to be Educated on How to Handle Stress and how to Cope without Becoming Bullies..

There will be Retaliation and Hell to Pay if you report a Police Officer in Buffalo. I reported another Officer who Falsely Arrested me while sitting in my car waiting for my friend at the corner of Mom’s street after she died and my sister told me to come and get my things and next you know—I was arrested by a Luitenent in South Buffalo for sitting in my car and he bullied me at Police Station with is other Officers for 3 hrs and refused to let me call my atty because that just happens in the movies I was told. False Arrest…Bullied Me at Station…Demanded I not talk to my Friend who met me there….Got 3 False Orders of Protection all saying same thing that Officer coached my sister, my son and his Dispatcher to write up…This Officer also went to my Church and spread rumors about case and I was kicked out of the Church that puts Officers above people and these rumors went from Church to Church—(several) so now I can’t go to several Churches based on False Rumors from an Officer were Confidentiality does not exist. Officers do not have to keep anything Confidential I was told. HIPPA does not exist with Police Force. This keeps me from employment also sinces the Medical Profession works closely with Police in Hospitals and Clinics. People are afraid of me and think I am dangerous and I never have acted out or were violent and the entire Police Force will not help me in an emergency because they share the same computer….The Police will not help me and my name has been made mud by an Officer and their computer system as they twist the truth. This computer is open to all Police Districts…Internal Affairs now Bullies me as soon as I walk into Headquarters in Buffalo and I certainly cannot get in touch with Daniel Derenda who gives my letters to Internal Affairs who I reported to him. Police Force can make a mess of your life. They hold all the Power and our Justice System Upholds the Police Force even when you give them the Facts, Dates, Names, Situations, Tape Recordings, Videos—they find a way to cover it up and dismiss Police Bullying and Crime…They Hold the Keys…..Is this what America was founded on? Is this Freedom what our Military Men Fought and Died For??? Not….
