Yeah, when the cbills are scarce I totally get it. I don't even need to worry about them anymore (after 3 years) and I still move weapons and engines around more than I need to.

When they initially released they only went to two (and had negatives, they were worthless), so when they went to five this was important. Note this also goes for other "leveled" modules like seismic.

Pro-tip don't worry about any mech modules, except; Radar Deprivation and Seismic Sensor. The best two which should be equipped on almost every mech.

Those are fine, but not the other mech modules like hill climb or advanced gyro. Weapon modules are good, except for range on missiles, especially range on LRMs.

I mean, LRM range can make the difference between someone getting out of range of a salvo and not. Not worth a few million cbills probably, but not useless. Target decay is way more relevant on a lurmboat though.

Well, it COULD, but it is really unlikely. The range is already 1000m for those things. That is a LOT of time for the target to get to cover or simply out of range. Adding more range to it increases the already enormous spread at that range and allows for any AMS to take down even more missiles.

Ideally LRMs should be fired under 500m and the closer the better. Don't give the target time to get to cover or AMS to do its thing.

Yeah, my point is that if you're firing on a target at say 900m, and they try to move out of range, the range module might make the difference. If you were running a pure lurmboat and don't have anything else you want to use the 2nd weapon mod slot for, it might potentially be worth. Probably not, but maybe if you just love that mech.

Do you mean the spread lessens? That the missile grouping is tighter? I haven't seen that with SRM range module before, was it a recent change?

It's just the generic srm range module. It's the same thing with the LBX weapons. What the range module does is that while the CoF stays the same at max range, max range increases meaning the CoF is tighter at all other ranges.

Range module (and quirks) are generally really strong. Being able to hit with SRMs just that little bit farther especially is insanely powerful since they don't have falloff, just max range. Getting a snipe kill at 300m is extremely satisfying.

You should try dual LB10X on the K2 with a range module. It increases LB10X range by 30% and makes the cones really tight at closer ranges, practically AC10s at that point.

seismic is absolutely amazing and a must have on my mechs. I only have 2 so i switch them round a LOT! but it really really is the best module you can put on a mech.

Be advised: Unlike Raderp, there are two levels of seismic to unlock with GXP. (it's not cheap)

While opinions vary, my rule of thumb for Weapon Modules is to get cooldown for ballistics and range for energy weapons.

Exceptions might be when your build focuses heavily on a single weapon type, like dual gauss, in which case both might be useful. But if you only have the cash for one, I stick with my recommendation.

another thing nobody has mentioned is the importance of Target decay with locking weapons, [SSRM and LRM] it's literally all the difference between hitting and missing most of the time when it matters.

Without Target decay against an opponent with Radar Deprivation you lose lock instantly.

Without Target Decay against a vanilla target you get about 2.25 seconds after losing Line of Sight before you lose lock.

With Advanced Target Decay against a vanilla target, you get something like 4.75 seconds after losing line of sight before you lose lock.

With Advanced Target Decay against a target with Radar Deprivation you get about 2.25 seconds after losing line of sight before you lose lock

I'd go as far as to say that it's the third best overall module (unless you need shock absorbers for a non-jump light or zoom for ERLL) for actual fighting mechs, too. Real info warfare - target damage reads, positions on minimap and doritos on hud, and the bearings and courses all held a few seconds longer.
