No, he is still starting games for us 3 seasons later, was our top goalscorer and assister over those 3 years and he's one of the few experinced players we have in the squad

Do people have such short memories? He has declined rapidly last season and this, yes. But he was still fantastic in the moyes reign. I remember thinking where we would have ended up that season if it wasn't for de gea and rooney. Add to that, he was one of the very few remaining stars when LVG came in. RVP of course was there but he had declined rapidly.

He wasn't great in LVG's first season, but by all accounts was a big presence in the dressing room and also was important on a few occasions and helped us finish top 4. Just imagine if we had been out of the CL two years in a row. That would have been disastrous.

Basically, I feel rooney has played am important role in our rebuilding phase. He has brought stability, experience and leadership. He was also a pretty good player only a few seasons ago. Don't let last season and this clout your judgement of him. He has been an excellent servant of the club for a long time. As far as his transfer request is concerned, rooney was proved right. Ultimately, we did actually lack ambition in the transfer market towards the end of SAF, and it caught up with us. Rooney had the foresight to understand this.

Regardless of his performances on the pitch over the last 3 seasons I think he's been a stabilising influence in the dressing room. After the old guard shit the bed during Moyes' tenure I think he's the only player left who has got the balls to call a lazy cunt a lazy cunt, I don't think you can put a value on that kind of influence.

Rooney will only be truly appreciated when he retires. I feel honoured to have watched his career.
