I think he's really gone off the boil the past couple of years. He has his moments, of course, but he often sounds like he just doesn't care or doesn't know what's going on. Was it Rashford vs West Ham where he was completely unexcited and said 'here it is, Lingard'. He did the same thing another match too. Obviously scousers slag him off for saying basically nothing for that brilliant Benteke goal in Martial's debut match.

He has his moments like the Martial goal, [TRIGGER WARNING] Aguerooo etc. but personally I think he needs to be replaced with someone who has the passion that he used to have.

Oh also thanks for the post OP, there's no doubt that Martin Tyler immortalised some great moments in football and in United's history.

Someone on either /r/soccer or /r/reddevils gave commentary on that perfectly - he's a professional whose job is to provide commentary on entertaining and memorable moments in football, and like all commentators they do a lot of preparation and research before a game. They'll basically hype themselves up to tell the 'narrative' (and i don't mean this in a bad way at all). When a youth player comes on late to make a debut and scores (think MACHEDAA!) or City needed a goal to win the title (think AGUEROOOOO!) - he's ready in the moment to go nuts.

But if something unexpected against the fairytale narrative comes out of the blue (e.g., like you said Rashford scoring against West Ham in the Hammer's last ever game at Upton Park) he might be completely unprepared for it in the moment.

I get it. Tyler loves his narratives. But even outside of that, he just seems less excited by it all - and as I say, has got names wrong a few times recently.

For the Rooney goal, when the video skips he says "How about sensational!" before he says how about superb btw!

Nice roundup though, I have so many of these etched in my mind along with the goals. Still remember going into school the morning after the Giggs goal, the teacher had to tell us all to shut up because no one would stop talking about it.
