Ethnic Russian here.

I don't give a fuck about Donald Trump tbh anymore, but this idea that Putin is a 'dictator' has got to stop: Russian people genuinely love him, and the people you see like Navalny, Pussy Riot, are such a small group, politically speaking, they're as marginalised as the black panthers or American Nazi Party are in American politics (and about as important); Indeed, if Putin was to somehow lose power tomorrow, It would be the Orthodox Marxist Leninists led by Zyuganov, not the liberals darlings of the Western Media, who'd replace him. This would be far, far worse.

The man has an approval rating of 82% according to Gallup--not some Russian intelligence agency's poll, but Gallup, from within the belly of the beast itself.

European NGOs have never challenged the validity of his elections, since he has won them soundedly with vast majorities that wouldn't even need to be fabricated. He is easily the most popular leader in the world today, and someone like Obama would kill to have his approval ratings and legacy.

Litvinenko and Nemtsov had a lot of terrific things to say about Putin too

Litvinenko

Litvinenko was a former FSB agent who defected to the MI6 (if you really want to get into it, I can provide pages of evidence linking him to British intelligence); Spies getting killed in spy games is nothing to really balk at, or even bat an eyelash at, especially when the Israelis do it to us and our allies all the time (i.e, killing Palestinians who are EU citizens). If he wanted to join MI6 to spy on his country...well, I have no sympathy for that, and neither should anyone else.

The media's lionising of Litvinenko is a bit pathetic, when you realise that the media is doing this as a cover for his espionage activities.

Nemtsov

Why would Putin assassinate a man who poised no threat, never had any political capital or momentum to begin with, and in a very public part of Moscow in front of eyewitnesses and CCTVs? It sounds like the shitty plot to some anti-Russian propaganda from the 80s. It would be as pointless as the Obama regime assassinating the head of the Libertarian Party due to fear of an 'imminent threat to his power'. It just sounds goofy, if you actually know the details.

For the record, I do believe that Moscow was involved in the killing of Litvinenko (and honestly could care less, you betray and spy on your mother country, that's the price you pay), but certainly not Nemtsov, as the motive just simply isn't there (I don't know how to explain it to Westerners, but people like Nemtsov, Pussy Riot, Navalny, et. al. have almost no popular following except among very wealthy expats and a minority intelligentsia).

With all due respect, I'm going to have to disagree. And so are The Independent and NDTV, among many others. Especially telling is the Indy100 poll (and note that they're using Gallup data as well), with Putin's unfavorable rating at 43, quite a bit higher than anyone else on the list. You're also glossing over things such as the Crimea situation, which a large portion of Western leaders decried and did not see as legitimate.

I think you're greatly overestimating Putin's popularity, especially outside of Russia.
