I've had it happen twice. The tampon string is still hanging out, but the tampon is bent and firmly stuck and no amount of pulling the string with my fingers can dislodge it. How do I keep this from happening?

Tampons work best when there is some menstrual blood to provide lubrication between the tampon and your vaginal walls. You can tell if lubrication is the problem if the tampon string is white or if the removed tampon has large white spots that haven't been stained with blood. If this is the problem, it might help to use a pad in the beginning of your cycle, for a few hours. It's also a good idea to use the right-sized tampon for your flow, e.g. Tampax's guide.
Another potential problem is a tense or small vaginal opening. It may help to practice pelvic relaxation exercises so that you can relax your vaginal opening more readily when you need to. In a pinch, getting into a squatting position and relaxing may also help you remove something that is already stuck.
However, a tense or small vaginal opening and other issues are usually harder to solve than choosing the right tampon size. If you still find yourself struggling with stuck tampons, it would be best to talk to a gynecologist.

Is the tampon relatively dry when you're trying to pull it out? If your flow is lighter, you may want to try a liner instead.

Push like you have pooping, you might be able to push it out that way. Otherwise use two fingers and gets good grip on the tampon and try to pull it out by the white cotton part and not the string. Relax the more you worry and tense up the harder it will be to get the tampon out.

Don't use tampons. There are cups, sponges, pads. See what works for you.
[–]wackyvorlon -2 points-1 points0 points  (0 children)
I was going to suggest forceps.
[–]DConstructed -1 points0 points1 point  (0 children)
Learn to control your vaginal muscles.
You can relax and pull it out or even push it our.
[–]dahlia221 -2 points-1 points0 points  (1 child)
I think you're probably putting it in too far.

Such strange down votes for a helpful suggestion!

And possible stimulation might be creating moisture in that region that might be causing the tampon to enlarge from the moisture.
Bwhahahahaha! Hey guy, you realize literally the only function of a tampon is to ABSORB MOISTURE right? Take a seat, pal, this doesn't concern you.
[–]DarthVictivus comment score below threshold-17 points-16 points-15 points  (6 children)
Laugh it up! You have valid reason.
But a life time trying to understand a region of a woman's body that you have neglected comes in handy now and again.
She has a tight nether region. How many of those have you come across? I've dated a few for quite a while. And I respected them.
Also, things get bigger when they absorb moisture. I'm only here to help.
And, my score on this sub will never rise above 0
    [–]eartipping 9 points10 points11 points  (5 children)
Oh I get it now, you're a troll. Carry on.
Also, nether region? It's called a vagina. Grow up and stay in your lane, just because you stuck your finger in one once doesn't make you an authority on them.
[–]DarthVictivus comment score below threshold-12 points-11 points-10 points  (4 children)
Being an authority on vaginas makes me an authority on vaginas.
How long have you had your head next to one? I can count in hours or days of having my face directly next to a vagina.
I am not a troll. I offered help and sympathy. You may be the troll. You hover subs looking for fights. What have you offered?
I am delicate. The young lady is uncomfortable. Using blatant words will not help.

Using that kind of "logic", wearing glasses for 10+ years makes me an expert in refractive errors and correction. Why does anyone think that mere proximity leads to understanding?
Do you have any actual credentials for being an expert on vaginas?
    [–]DarthVictivus -5 points-4 points-3 points  (2 children)
My EMT credentials are past due. But I do have a Biomedical engineering degree.
And hahahhaa! Noo nooooooo, nooo not the same. Hahah
    [–]Codes4Nailpolish 2 points3 points4 points  (1 child)
Studying BME does not make you an expert on vaginas unless you did something equivalent to a specialization or a research project specific to vaginas. The coverage of genitourinary systems in EMT courses is very sparse. Those are terrible credentials for declaring yourself an expert on vaginas.

I never said I was the best.
But I would be the person who would be sent.

Your job should be mansplaining, you're really good at it.
[–]DarthVictivus comment score below threshold-6 points-5 points-4 points  (1 child)
I believe that you are hysterical. You are either really sarcastic, or really honest. Both are funny.
I will try to the best of my abilities.
From the age of 12 I have been trying to put things in vaginas that do not belong there. Or maybe they do? Who knows? But that gives me 30 years of very close inspection that a woman who is not a gymnast would not have.
I believe in this circumstance that I am the expert.
    [–]apricotmuffins 1 point2 points3 points  (0 children)
    Yep. Expert mansplainer. Congrats.

OP could have been delivered via cesarean section. Also, you seem to lack a basic understanding of how much preparation the body has to go through in order to deliver a baby vaginally. Typically about 9 months of preparation. You don't just insert your fingers and pull the infant out.
    [–]eartipping 2 points3 points4 points  (0 children)
You don't just insert your fingers and pull the infant out.
If only! And now I'm chortling over the thought of a baby with an easy-to-pull string attached to it. Pls get on that ASAP, nature!
    [–]DarthVictivus -3 points-2 points-1 points  (8 children)
WTF is wrong with you? Why would you assume that? My wife and I have spent years trying to have a baby. Your insensitivity is disgusting. I want to vomit at your response.
    [–]LietusRain 7 points8 points9 points  (7 children)
It's a reasonable assumption based on your advice to OP. Equating pulling out a tampon with child birth. Your lack of understanding that moisture makes tampon removal easier. Your lack of understanding that child birth is an intense process which involves tearing for many women.
It'd be like if a woman was asking for advice on how to have more comfortable sex and you responded with, "VAGINAS ARE MEANT FOR CHILDBIRTH! WHY CAN'T YOU TAKE A DICK?!?" Not appropriate given the original topic. And really not how any of this works.
    [–]DarthVictivus -2 points-1 points0 points  (6 children)
You are imposing your own strange issues on us.
I never said that. I said moisture will make the tampon larger and stay in there.
You are claiming I said the opposite.
And the rest of what you said is just insane.
    [–]eartipping 9 points10 points11 points  (3 children)
A man in a female space calling us crazy, how original.
    [–]LietusRain 9 points10 points11 points  (0 children)
Called another person hysterical. Which is funny given the origins of the word.
    [–]Codes4Nailpolish 5 points6 points7 points  (0 children)
It's ridiculous. This whole post is a perfect example a man overrunning a space for women. 1) A women's issue that isn't talked about in the mainstream media or colloquial mixed gender conversations or even most health classes these days -- 2) is brought up in a dedicated women's space -- 3) is 56% upvoted -- 4) with 10/24 comments being troll posts.
    [–]LietusRain 6 points7 points8 points  (1 child)
Who is "us?" Is DarthVictivus two people? As in Darth and Victivus?
Tampons are more easily removed when moist. As in saturated with blood. Have you ever tried to remove a dry tampon vs. a moist one? For some reason I can bet you haven't. I'm not sure how large you think tampons expand when moist, but it sounds like you're assuming something relative to the size of an infant. Which is simply not the case.
    [–]DarthVictivus -3 points-2 points-1 points  (0 children)
    Yeah, I have!
I am really sorry to break the news to you. But I have spent a lot of time with vaginas. I was figuring out how to deal with tampons in high school. And as a member of the swim team I know what happens to tampons when they get wet.
Oh, and US? I'm married. You are single and you will be forever. Part of my job being married is knowing everything about the vagina! It's my GOD GIVEN JOB.
That's right. A priest told me, I need to know everything about my wife's vagina. And I did! I bought fucking books about it.
