It's not like Jeff Flake and John McCain are the only Republican senators to publicly criticize Donald Trump; the composition of Congress would be very important when it comes to a Trump (gag) administration. It's more than likely that Democrats will at least tie up the Senate and take back some seats in the House, and the former could at least prevent Trump from passing any of his SCOTUS nominees.
But what if enough Republicans openly counter Trump and his initiatives? What if not only any bill Trump pushes for gets blocked before reaching his pen, what if all his vetoes are overridden? What if bills Trump implicitly hates are passed in spite of him? It's one thing to have a quasi-stalemate like we have now with President Obama and the current Republican Congress, but two branches of government in open conflict? It's either a very good thing or a very bad thing, but it also lends even more credence to the idea, nay fact, that Trump would be awful as President.
