Thats what i loved about it, felt like fallout 1 with the junktown questline getting into things felt natural

Yeah, New Vegas was brilliant. Fallout 4 has plenty to like and all and it's far and away the better game, mechanically speaking, but New Vegas is one of my most played games and carried with it some of my favorite all time game experiences.

I'm not too fond of a lot of the mechanics in Fallout 4, especially the modding and loot system, it seems like it's trying to create an addictive gameplay loop that just isn't really the kind of game I'm into. Legendary system feels like a part of it too, all to encourage grinding.

There are a couple minor things like going back to DR instead of using DT that aren't really for me either.

That said It's still really fun to play and I have about 60 hours in the game, just not what I expected from a Fallout game.

Yeah, that's a good point. I guess what I meant 'mechanically speaking' I was mostly referring to that 'it's extremely easy to just put the game on and enjoy it'. It plays very smoothly, it has a good amount of polish and doesn't ask too much of the gamer.

But yeah, some of the specific mechanics are skinner box feeling and there is a mindless repetition to it all that is more of a 'boredom ward' than necessarily satisfying.

It really rankles that we're not getting an equivalent 4.5 game like New Vegas out of this engine though. On paper it feels like such a no-brainer type release schedule. I mean I understand it's still a ton of work no matter how you slice it but something like:

Year 1: Release of main game, introducing new(generation) engine and structural mechanics. Setting the table, so to speak.

Year 2-3: DLC for main game, providing new scenarios and content

Year 3: Bethesda moves on to develop next generation engine hands last generation to another studio in a licensing deal, basically "here, go tell stories with this engine for a while to keep the fans happy"

Year 3-5: New studio develops game based on old engine including DLC.

Year 6: New engine-generation game from Bethesda is ready to release. Wash, rinse, repeat.

Bethesda still gets the lions share of revenue and pretty much all the acclaim. Though the companion title might go on to become a fan favorite as New Vegas did, Bethesda still comes out on top overall, gamers come out on top, storytellers like Chris Avellone come out ahead...etc.

I know the business of these things is rarely so generous, but damn if that wouldn't be the roadmap.

I think it's pretty obvious to everyone at this point that while Fallout 4 is good, almost all playthroughs will feel almost exactly the same because there's not a lot of choice or variation in the quests, but in F:NV there's so many ways to go about doing not just the main quest, but a lot of the side quests too so it's much easier to go back into the game and find things you've never seen.

Quests are nice but I prefer how Fallout 4 doesn't just shove a quest in your face but actually places mini stories into most of their buildings. From my head I can actually remember quite a lot of them. It's why Honest Hearts was my favourite DLC, the Survivors stories was a nice touch and made exploring fun. Without the actual quest most places were pretty dead inside, so many pointless caves and buildings that amounted to nothing.

Nuka World is great for that, there's so many stories on the terminals you'll find through out the parks and the majority are really funny to read.

[–]Mabarax 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

Yeah, I love reading the terminals. They add so much detail to the location they're in.

Bethesda is just so much better at building an interesting world, but Obsidian is better at writing an interesting story. If only we could get a game with both.

I feel that once I've done all I feel I need to do in 4 it's very unlikely I'll go back to it except for mods that is though new Vegas I feel ill go back to it time and time again I'm already on like my sixth playthrough and this time I'm going to kill everthing I can though I still haven't played a legion play yet so think I'll do that next

I think that's a little bit of an exaggeration honestly. I loved NV but even when I was trying to actively make playthroughs different, after the first 2, I had pretty much seen everything. Nothing caught me off guard and I had the most efficient way of doing each quest in the game burned into my head at that point, even when doing a no fast travel/exploration playthrough. Obsidian's writing was awesome and all, but with the location being a desert, there just wasn't much variation in world building.

Surprisingly, in Fallout 4 I had a similar but different experience. With fast travel, I ran into the same issue I did with NV, where I subconsciously would do everything the most efficient way possible and everything would end up feeling samey, but without fast travel in Survival I ended up finding so many new things within the game, even after 500 hours and 2 survival playthroughs. Maybe it's the locations, maybe it's how I play games, I don't really know. Just my 2 cents.

Different games, same series sort of thing.

I absolutely loved the F3/NV renditions of the series and would love to see them with upgraded mechanics and graphics.

But it appears Beth aren't really interested in weapon durability (what makes your weapons valuable and special) skills (mostly for roleplaying. It felt good to have different stats for different characters) and the unique speech checks that game with perks, special and skills. Much more too.

It's been streamlined for appeal. More appeal = wider audience. Wider audience = more money.

Beth are a business and they've 100% made the best decision that they could. They've limited the technical side of gameplay and made more money at the same time.

Just my thoughts.

I am not interested in weapon durability either. I feel it completely breaks the pacing of the game and is just artificial difficulty. Everything outside of pipe weapons should not break that god damn fast.

I've finished Fallout NV 3 times and am playing again now. And I've played Fallout 4 once, and never finished it. Might do it in the future, but NV is definetly my favourite. The gameplay and interactions with the ai is better imo

There are definitely a few features I missed from Fallout New Vegas but I have spent just as much time between 3, New Vegas and 4. As much as Bethesda falls flat in areas they still manage to keep me coming back. Got a few games lying around but haven't touched them because I've been playing Fallout 4.

[–]jeredditEnclave 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

I thought people realized this months ago. Why are we still bringing it up? Of course NV is better.

I remember being super late game and just wondering around the map searching for undiscovered locations, just when I thought it was done I found a cave that gave me a quest to find someone that got lost in there, it was my final location and for some reason I still remember that little moment.
