The general consensus is that his second season was very exhausting on the players and he made very little changes to the squad after winning the title. Thus players were exhausted, there was no new signings, and it's always hard to motivate the players after they win the league (SAF said it himself).

made very little changes

Not for want of trying. The club didn't back him

Yeah, that's the one thing that should be different here. Hundred million a season is now our norm.

yeah apparently that emelano guy got none of the players mourinho wanted/needed and stuck him with pedro and baba rahman

Don't forget Djilobodji.

How could anyone forget Djibouti

Had to have been more than that imo, that Chelsea squad was in relegation form. Guess we'll never know.

Well they also said that the team started hating him. And they also said there was a mole that was leaking team lineups and other info. But everything coming from the media should be taken with a mine worth of salt.

Also Jose's father was ill and he used to fly out to Portugal fairly regularly and therefore gave the squad alot of time off.

Wonder why they started hating him, he's typically a manager that players really like. I know the Eva Carneiro thing was significant but there had to have been more.

He probably tore into the likes of Hazard and Costa for being overweight and not performing when the team was in bad form which created bad feeling, Dropping Terry didn't help either as id imagine he had a lot of sway in the dressing room

He famously never used to rotate much, but we have a really good squad now and he seems keen to rotate. Plus if he is successful at United the board will give him as much money as he wants to refresh the squad each season.

Most managers tend to be stubborn, but I really want to think that Mourinho learns from his mistakes and rotates more; especially after his interview where he said he can't wait till September so everyone gets a chance.

From what I can tell he didn't have the complete backing of the chelsea board during the transfer season and didn't get to bring in the players he wanted. During the course of the season he also lost the dressing room and struggled with motivating players after winning the league the season before.

If anything I'd think his passion and desire is even higher now and he's motivated to win. I also highly doubt he'd make the exact same mistake again but you never know.

  1. Huge power struggle between the board and Jose, with the board not that keen to back him in the market.
  2. His father's illness proving a very unwelcome (To say the fucking least) distraction during the summer, which means Chelsea's pre season was way less than ideal
  3. Eva-gate, which very likely led to that Jose lost the dressing room. It should be noted that things were less than ideal already before that, but Eva proved to be a massive distraction and it affected the squad really negatively. I also think that had Jose got the players he wanted before Eva-gate, and the off season went better, then he'd had dealt with it way more calmly and it'd have a zero effect on the players. Jose's antics with her and the guy physio were somewhere between mysterious and completely mind boggling.

I have this theory that if Jose had gotten Pogba and Stones that summer like he wanted to, then the pressure in Chelsea would have had calmed down instantly and the players would actually perform and Chelsea would have run away with the title, luckily we will never know.

The reasons for his Chelsea collapse are well-documented.

Unless José gets amnesia and forgets what giving your players too much freedom can do, or his father becomes suddenly ill again - you don't need to worry.

He seemed to forget his experience at Real when he went to Chelsea. It's not the first club where he's fallen out with everyone

After winning the league, I believe Jose wanted a new CB and CM, to replace John Terry(he was aging) and Matic/Fabregas ( both of them where not as good as the start if the season). They wanted to bring in Pogba, I believe Riola has come out and said that Chelsea were after pogba. Chelsea brought Djejiboli and Matt miazga, who were young and relatively unproven.

Lastly Abrohamovic wasn't supporting Jose in the Transfer window, With United under Eddy, he would not be facing that issue.

They returned late from pre season, people were out of shape (Costa was 2 stone overweight, hazard was overweight too) the board didn't back him and were incompetent in the market, as shown by djilobodji and their scattergun from this summer. The players downed arms, namely hazard, Costa and Fabregas. They were too relaxed and stopped playing for him. Maybe it was due to the exertions of the previous campaign, who knows?

Jesus... Obviously it can still happen, and I'm somewhat expecting it to. When he falls out of almost every single job he holds for more than 3 years, to say it's different at United because we'll back him is just hopeful as hell.
