IMO gift cards are a really bad gift. When you give them to someone, they often have trouble spending them. Over time they may devalue. I like to give people cash. I probably should give BTC, but that's hard to spend too :-)

Stolen credit cards mostly.

Not mostly. But probably some of them.

Only some of them - as in 95%.

Fraud.

Odd. I've regularly save between 15-24% off Amazon prices across 50 some transactions over the past two years to the tune of ~$1000.00 in savings and have had exactly no issues.

Some fraud.

Its quite possible that you're not affected by the fraud (or rather, laundering).

Example: Someone steals activated gift card codes from a third party and uses them to fulfill Amazon orders. Even if they get caught later, you got your stuff, and either the third party that lost the codes or Amazon have lost money.

However there is also a legit explanation: IIRC some people working on Mechanical Turk can't realistically get the money out in any other form than Amazon gift cards for one reason or another, so this is the only way they can get real money for their work.

People working on Mechanical Turk earn a couple of dollars a day, if that. Not enough to buy the stuff you want from Amazon. Also, they are not using Purse to get another currency that they can't really use AND losing 25%.

Fraud.

They can offer great discounts as the people making the purchases are using stolen credit cards.
