I work in a cube farm and a few months back they moved a female contractor into a cubicle next to me. She has tried to chit chat with me, talking a lot about how she's going to take her exhusband for all his money. Most of the time I keep my head down and do my work.
Today I was talking with another guy a couple of cubes over from her and we started talking about this orb spider that setup a web in the parking garage. Big web, big spider, it's neat. I play at photography a bit so we were talking about trying to get a photo of it. She slams her stuff down and stomps off saying "oh I can't even handle spiders!" Guy and I shrug at each other and keep talking. A few minutes later she comes back and we're now talking macro photos of jumping spiders. "You're still on that!" she announces and storms off. A white knight tells me to quit being an asshole and change the subject. I shrug at him, thinking she needs to sack up, I'm just talking with someone else I'm not doing it to be an ass when the conversation ends it'll end. But I don't say shit but conversation moves to flowers (more macro photography talk). A moment later she's back with a manager telling us we can't talk about spiders because it makes her uncomfortable.
WTF? really? spiders are now NSFW? This woman is several years older than me (36) and has pushed out 3 or 4 kids. How has she made it this far in life with that kind of a sensitivity? I have some macro photos that I'm proud of that are spiders on flowers, I now want to bring one in for my cube wall.
