Cristiano Ronaldo FIFA 17's top player, Lionel Messi second, Neymar third

ESPN FC's Alexis Nunes brings us the latest from the social media world, including an incredible proposal by Burger King.

It's that time of the year: summer is winding down, a new football season is getting settled in and of course, that means there is a new FIFA game on the way. This year's incarnation, FIFA 17, promises plenty of innovations and new features that we'll all be enjoying soon enough -- the game releases in the U.S. on Sept. 27, rest of the world on Sept. 29 -- but the one thing we all care about is player ratings!

Heck, it might be the only thing that the players care about...

EA released their Top 50 players today and after his brilliant year in which he won the Champions League with Real Madrid and lifted Euro 2016 with Portugal, global megastar Cristiano Ronaldo is the top-rated player in the game.

Your move, Mr. Messi.

The top 50 contain a few surprises -- anyone else intrigued by James Rodriguez making the cut despite being rooted to Real Madrid's bench? -- but all in all, it's a formidable collection of talent that you'll be using to battle your friends all season long.

Lionel Messi is of course No. 2 behind his La Liga rival while his Barca pals Neymar and Luis Suarez, plus Bayern goalkeeper/sweeper extraordinaire, Manuel Neuer, round out the top five.

The full list is at the bottom but here are some things that caught our attention:

- Real Madrid have eight players in the top 50 while only manage six.

- Bayern Munich manage a whopping nine in this elite pack to lead all other clubs. Will that help them romp to yet another Bundesliga title?

- The Manchester rivalry is alive and well. City notch three players (David Silva, Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero) in the esteemed collective while Man United's summer spending on Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic gives them three of the top 50 as well. No place for Wayne Rooney, though. Weird.

- Unsurprisingly, attacking football wins the day as four of the top five, seven of the top 10 and 14 of the top 50 are likely to be found scoring all the goals. Stopping them in the top 50, though, are 18 defenders, including eight goalkeepers.

- Dimitri Payet's sensational season is rewarded with a spot in the top 50, but nary a Leicester player in sight. Odd, that.

- The top-rated goalkeeper is Manuel Neuer, as expected. The top-rated defender is Bayern Munich's Jerome Boateng and the top-rated midfielder is the Premier League assist king, Mesut Ozil.
