This PDF from The International Journal for Clinical and Experimental medicine goes deeply into this issue.

"Treatment with MSG induces a dose-dependent swelling and death of mature neurons (12-14 days in culture) with little effect on young immature neurons (<1 week in culture)."

Symptoms include headaches and neuron injury

"A double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized study has confirmed the link between MSG usage and these various symptoms"

It's toxic to neurons.... Hence neurotoxin... Did no one research this?

Wikipedia is NOT a trusted source: straight from the article "The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has given MSG its generally recognized as safe(GRAS) designation.[Gov. 2] A popular belief is that large doses of MSG can cause headaches and other feelings of discomfort, known as "Chinese restaurant syndrome," but evidence of such a reaction with typical use is unclear"

Guess the author chose not to do a simple Google search

See above post, MSG is indeed a neurotoxin, as concluded by the international journal for clinical and experimental medicine....

I keep reading that yeast extract is another form of msg, but I've also read that yeast extract is a naturally occurring glutamate, and chemically is NOT msg. What's the verdict on this?

People who are particularly sensitive to MSG can experience symptoms from stomach cramps and nausea, to heart palpitations, dizziness, joint pain or shortness of breath.

I hate MSG. Anytime I eat something with too much MSG in it, I get this annoying buzzy kind of headache. They only use this crap because it's a cheap way to give food more flavor.

When people have studied this question, they have concluded that it depends on whether people believe they have eaten MSG, rather than whether they actually did eat it.

Quite often, I get the buzzy headache... then I try to remember what I might have eaten that could have had MSG in it.

Then, I'll go and take a look at the ingredients if the container is around. More often than not... MSG.

The Japanese eat massive amounts of MSG and have the longest lifespan of any country in the world.

As long as I can drench it in their gravy I really don't care.

Anytime some big fast food chain restaurant says they have some "secret ingredient" in their food I automatically assume it's poisonous. I'm glad I rarely eat these rat filled foods.
