Fallout 4 was a real letdown after New Vegas. There were barely any vague political overtones. I mean, if I'm standing in Forlorn Hope looking towards the Fort, I can FEEL the tension... is the legion going to attack suddenly? Does Forlorn Hope have enough supplies to last? I mean, even though there are about three "random" events in the game, I was like, convinced! that the legion could attack at any time.
The narrative was also constricting. I mean, it's completely different when New Vegas forces you down a six hour path to the actual open world. That makes absolute sense. When Fallout 4 makes you take the first hour or two to learn the new mechanics and introduce you to the first faction, that is like dumb, ok? It should take at least fifteen hours to even have the option to do anything with any faction.
As for consequences? Don't get me started. New Vegas lets you slaughter a legion suicide squad, and then gives you the option to basically have everybody totally forget about it because you're the protagonist. That's so deep! In Fallout 4, murdering countless members and lieutenants in a faction makes them dislike you. Like, what even.
