Manchester United great Ferguson opens up about mega-rich players’ wages

Formner Man Utd boss Sir Alex has had his say about the earning power of the Premier League’s top earners.

Sir Alex Ferguson has defended the massive salaries earned by the Premier League’s top stars – and insisted: They are worth it.

The former Manchester United boss has no problem with the huge earning power of the likes of Wayne Rooney ,Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba at Old Trafford – or fellow Premier League big-hitters Yaya Toure andSergio Aguero at City.

The Manchester quintet all earned more than £200,000 a week, but Fergie said: “The TV deal struck two years ago in the Premier League created a situation where the obvious thing was transfer values and salaries were going to go up.

“It is quite correct in terms of players’ salaries. They are the people providing the product that people want to see, in the Premier League in particular.

“The minute the deal was struck, obviously, a lot of things were going to increase.”

Sir Alex is not worried about the glut of foreign managers in the English top flight either, with four Italians among the multi-national force of bosses in the Premier League.

“The Premier League is such a magnet for all the top coaches,” added Fergie at a UEFA event.

“It’s not just the Italians. There’s Jurgen Klopp who is German, Jose Mourinho who is Portuguese and Pep Guardiola who is Spanish.

There’s a school of Italian managers establishing in the Premier League but it’s a collection of international managers now because I think the Premier League is probably the most attractive league in Europe now.

“When you see the television figures in America, for instance, it’s all English football.

“It’s such an attractive game, the English game, and that’s why these managers are there, to take the challenge.”
