Donald Trump delivered a crucial immigration speech Wednesday night, doubling down on his pledge to make Mexico pay for his proposed "impenetrable" wall on the U.S.-Mexico border.
"We will build a great wall along the southern border. And Mexico will pay for the wall, 100 percent. They don't know it yet, but they're going pay for the wall," Trump said, after Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto said earlier that he told Trump his country would not pay for the barrier.
Recent contradictions have put focus on whether Trump still wants to deport all of the estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants in the United States. He appeared to soften his stance in an interview with Fox News last week, saying he would largely go through the same deportation process President Barack Obama has, but "with a lot more energy."
Stirring concerns about immigration from the first minutes of his campaign, Trump has pledged to crack down on illegal entry into the U.S., repeatedly calling for a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border. His speech in Arizona followed a visit to Mexico earlier Wednesday, where he described illegal immigration and border security as imperative to both America and Mexico.
