Hello all, I have a question on the laws dealing with cremations in the state of Ohio. I paid for my mother to be cremated and she made it known to all of her children that she wanted her ashes spread over our father and deceased sister's graves. She left no will. I called the crematorium today and they informed me that my youngest brother stopped by and told them to divide the ashes among all the children. We are all adults and 4 of us want to do as my mother requested and spread her ashes over the graves, however my brother wants to keep part of her ashes and have the rest divided between all of us and not have them spread. The crematorium then told me that they are required by law to divide the ashes when there is no will left behind. Feeling as though this is incorrect I had called the Ohio Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors and they had informed me that the law in Ohio says the majority makes the decisions without a will. However the person I had spoke with wasn't able to provide me with the actual law or any written guidance that I could present to the crematorium. If anybody would be able to assist me in finding this law, if it is indeed true, I would be forever grateful as I would be able to fulfill my Mother's wish on wanting to be spread over the graves.
