"I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color," Kaepernick told NFL Media in an exclusive interview after the game. "To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder."

Thanks Obama.

If him not standing is something that makes you mad you must have a hard life

I'd say the opposite, these people are so fucking bored that they decide to get outraged over literally anything, it is the same type of people who threw a fit because that girl didn't put her hand over her heart

Girl who didn't put her hand over her heart was black too, right? Starting to notice a trend here...

I bet there are tons of Americans going "there are issues, but I don't think pulling a stunt like disrespecting the national anthem is the right and constructive way to bring attention to them". Like for fuck's sake, a harmless act that is going to attract a lot of media attention is exactly the way to bring attention to a sensitive issue!

Oh there is definitely a racial component to it, they would not have received the same amount of backlash if they were white, at least not as widespread. I am sure that the right would have been angry at them, but I think a lot of people decided to become more patriotic than usual when they saw black people doing it.

And there are also this repeated sentiment of "this is not the time nor the place to discuss this topic", but the problem is that for them there are never a time to discuss it.

Yeah it is weird, like he was a peaceful and reasonable as you could possibly get, but it still wasn't enough for some reason

idk just take a WILD guess who got heat and who didnt

I will say that the last guy was a soldier standing at attention, so I don't think he falls into the comparison. But you're definitely right about who got shit for it.

Yes wow all this attention is solving the issue. How about that?

Yea, I think he was being sarcastic.

Yet these are the same people who get angry when black people call out the injustices against us.

The same people who say #alllivesmatter.

The same people who think Ryan Lochte should be forgiven.

The same people who say when a white man goes on a rampage its mental illness.

If anyone goes on a rampage it's a mental illness

That is not what the conversation is like if is a muslim who commit the shooting

It is to me

inb4 all white people must think the same cause they are white

If anyone kills someone else (except self defense or times of war, im talking innocent bystanders here) its because they are fucked up mentally, if you think its ok to kill people based off of religion or gender or race or sexual orientation then you're fucked up in the head.

It doesn't matter what it is to you personally, when the general conversation has completely different implications.

Or Starbucks selling red cups during the holidays.

They say people are too sensitive when they joke about a group that isn't them but lose their shit when you say shit about them

Maybe that's why these threads always end up getting locked.

White people on race issues: I'm brutally honest and I'm not PC.

White people confronted with race issues: First of all, how dare you...

The truth never gets old.

Me: talks about race

White: for u to talk about politics… In my own house... For you to come into my house and start race baiting and talking about politics...

Me: race has nothing to with polit-

White: for you to disrespect me like this... after I've shown you nothing but kindness. How dare you

You come to me, on the day of my daughter's wedding.

Shit man it's almost like these people are individuals and their skin color doesn't determine their thoughts.

As a bsu fan I've always disliked kaep. As an American I'm just glad athletes are using their platforms to bring awareness to issues they feel strongly on, whether or not I agree with their ideologies or methods. Trying to start/increase dialogue is a good thing IMO, even if people want to nitpick the methods/views.

I agree, doing something like this whether or not you agree with the ideology is magnitudes better than rioting or blocking a highway, or conversely screaming on twitter about how BLM is a terrorist organisation. It makes a statement on a large platform and all it does is offend some assholes' sensibilities, it's a good peaceful means of protest.

athletes are using their platforms to bring awareness to issues

I think we were talking about the actual issue before this. Since he did this nobody is talking about the actual issue and only about him.

Also, why is it that every active duty person I talked to supports him and almost every fuckhead who's sitting on his couch or behind a microphone doesn't.

Makes me wanna hoo bang on some hoes.

He always stood when he was a starter tho...

Title game on point.

Kaepernick's? Not so much...

Even if he wanted to he couldn't stand up after what you just did to him

This is the kind of roasting that Kap deserves.

[–]Black_Dumbledore 5ポイント6ポイント  (0子コメント)

I hope the person in the second part is just being dramatic. Nothing that somebody you don't even know should make you that upset.

Lmfao reads like a damn novel excerpt

Also, in before the lock...?

Inb4 the thread lockdown?

A post making fun of white people and a title doing the same? How is this thread not locked yet?

The top comments here are rather refreshing, at least for Reddit.

This reminds me of a sub that I had once back in highschool. He yelled and belittled an obviously physically handicapped student who needed a walker to get around and couldn't stand for prolonged periods when she didn't stand for the pledge of allegiance. When her older brother found out he ended up skipping one of his most likely AP classes to chew out this douchebag in his best broken english right in front of my whole class and ended up getting suspended for it.

Liking the title OP

It's gotten to a point now where racism has for the most part switched sides.

Yep, this definitely represents all whites
